Hey it’s Friday and unless you’ve been living under a rock (or drinking too much), you know that it’s Super Bowl weekend. But the game is not until Sunday night and you’ve got the rest of the weekend to play your own games. And that’s where we come in. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music, and cutting-edge TV, we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve a special Super Bowl Beer Pick that you’ll want to get your hands on.
So welcome to our awesome Super Bowl Weekend Picks…
NFL Super Bowl XLVIII (MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ) – When the Nation’s number #1 defense (Seattle Seahawks) goes up against the country’s number #1 offense (Denver Broncos), anything goes. So fasten your seat belt and tune in to FOX at 6:30 EST, because this year’s Super Bowl could be one for the books!
Pre-Super Bowl Winterfest Hits Indy (Indianapolis, IN) – The Brewers of Indiana Guild (B.I.G.) is throwing a big one this Saturday, February 1st when Winterfest 2014 returns to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This afternoon event (2- 7 pm) will feature more than 200 beers from the region’s best breweries. This is 5 hours of beer sampling madness – so you don’t want to miss it. And be sure to hit the special cask ale tent, featuring traditional English ale and small-batch firkins, when you’re there. For more info on what promises to be one of the winter’s hottest events, check out: Winterfest 2014
On The Big Screen – There’s only one kind of movie that Hollywood would dare to open on a Super Bowl weekend – the Chick Flick. Because there are actually women out there, who could give a fuck about the Super Bowl – and desperately need to get as far away from the game as humanly possible. And that’s why tinseltown is debuting Jason Reitman’s newest film this weekend. Labor Day stars Kate Winslet as a depressed single mom who along with her son offers a ride to a loner (James Brolin), who they eventually learn is an escaped convict.
Pre-Super Bowl Belgianfest in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, WA) – If you’re like us (and admit it, you are), you’re probably going to be drinking beer while you’re watching the Super Bowl on Sunday – but we’re guessing it won’t be Belgian Beer. But if you’re up near Seattle, you can get your Belgian beer fix this Saturday (Feb 1st) when the Washington Beer Commission presents its 5th annual Belgianfest. This two-session event is taking place at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Seattle’s waterfront and will feature more than 80 Belgian-style beers crafted by Washington state breweries. Think Tripels, Dubbles, Saisons, Wits, Abbeys, and Lambics. This will be a feast with Belgian yeast. For more info the best Belgian beer festival this side of Brussels, check out: Belgianfest
And Just As a Reminder – There’s a football game on Sunday night (6:30 pm EST on FOX) that you might want to check out – if you’ve nothing else going on.
Our Super Bowl Beer Pick
A Super Bowl beer is not anything dark or double. A Super Bowl beer isn’t anything with a crushingly high ABV. A Super Bowl beer is something you can drink all game long without slurring your words or forgetting what quarter you’re in.
Our Super Bowl Beer Pick is a contemporary take on the lager and it’s brewed by our friends at Firestone Walker. Pivo Hoppy Pils is a classically rendered pilsner that’s dry-hopped in the West Coast tradition – and we think it’s one of the best damn beers in the world!
