The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 1, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and if you’re like us, you are ready for a break. You’ve been killing yourself at work all week and you’re in desperate need of fun. That’s where we come in! We’re all about the fun and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got a special weekend beer pick for you too…So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

The 21st annual Bockfest is taking place this weekend in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine and central business districts. This three-day event is the oldest and the largest in the United States, and it celebrates both the city’s brewing heritage and the coming of spring. It all kicks of tonight (3/1) with a parade that weaves through the city’s neighborhoods and ends up at Bockfest Hall for the blessing of the ceremonial first keg. (It doesn’t get any cooler than that – does it?) The Hall, which will remain open all weekend, will feature live entertainment, food, walking tours, breweriana and, of course, plenty of bock beer. The movies opening this weekend pretty much run the gamut from CGI-laden reinventions of children’s fairy tales, such as Jack the Giant Slayer, to low-budget horror sequels, such as The Last Exorcism Part II. At least “Jack the Giant Slayer” has a decent director (X-Men’s Bryan Singer) and a couple of quality actors (Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor and Bill Nighy.) “The Last Exorcism” will, however, have the Devil, and that’s got to count for something.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 1, 2013Our friends at Avery Brewing Company are presenting their 11th annual Boulder Strong Ale Fest and it’s going to be awesome! This two-day event will feature more than 1000 “epic brews” from some of the country’s best craft brewers and all the beers being served must be 8% ABV or higher. The “Strong Ale Fest” promises to be a “buzzfest” of monumental proportions and it is all taking place at the brewery’s tap room. Miami will be home to a major Rasta-fest this weekend. This year’s 9 Mile Music Festival will again be presenting the finest in reggae music, including “legacy artists” like Julian, Damian and Stephen Marley along with dance-hall favorites like 2 Chainz. In addition to a full day of “ganja-soaked” island music, this festival will also feature a wide variety of international foods as well as an “arts & crafts” marketplace. Our Weekend Beer Pick

Houston, Texas-based Karbach Brewing has announced the imminent release of its newest seasonal, Barn Burner Saison, a Belgian-style farmhouse ale. According to Brewmaster Eric Warner, “Barn Burner Saison is effervescent and golden in color with hints of citrus and spice, making it a great match for the warm spring we have here in Houston. The beer uses a unique yeast strain and fresh Texas-grown grapefruit zest which gives it an extremely refreshing character without sacrificing depth of flavor.” Barn Burner Saison will be available on tap and in canned six-packs from March through May and will start hitting shelves on March 1.
