Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in into all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!
From The Obvious News And Information Department (Syracuse, NY) – Whoa…Talk about an underwhelming product update that will probably surprise absolutely nobody. BeerBoard an analytic data app firm that monitors over 50,000 draft lines and 35,000 products is reporting that stout sales (lead by Guinness of course) surged on St Patrick’s Day.
Stouts typically rank between #6 and #8 overall among the leading beer styles poured in the US, but they surged #3 in on-premise sales last Friday, that’s a 323% bump on St Patrick’s Day according to the firm.
Guinness was up 11% on St. Patrick’s Day, positioning it as the #1 poured Stout in the U.S. and the #3 brand overall.
Words To Drink By (Washington, DC) – “You’ve got to respect St. Patrick’s Day…A 1000 year old religious holiday that allows you to drink like a maniac on a weekday.” Tom Bobak – American Craft Beer
Colorado Brewers Guilds Gets Their Man (Denver, CO) – Seven months after longtime Colorado Brewers Guild director John Carlson stepped down amid turmoil among its members, the nonprofit brewer’s organization has hired a new leader. According to Westword, DC lawyer Andres Gil Zaldana has been appointed the organization’s new Director (and we’d have hired him for his name alone).
What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Asheville, NC) – Highland Brewing recently sent us a new year-round addition to their 2017 portfolio that pairs well with the season’s warming temperatures. Bright, lively and light-bodied, Highland Daycation IPA is 4.9% ABV refresher that’s fueled for the road on Mosaic, Citra, El Dorado and Azacca hops.
