On Monday President Trump (who doesn’t drink alcohol at all) said he was “surprised” at just how candid Supreme Court hopeful Brett Kavanaugh had been during his before the Senate Judiciary last week. American Craft Beer was encouraged when anyone is positive about beer, but maybe we shouldn’t have been.
According to the NY Post President Trump was caught more than a little off-guard by his Supreme Court candidate’s sometimes angry pro-beer comments.
“I watched him and I was surprised at how vocal he was about the fact that he likes beer. He’s had a little bit of difficulty. He talked about things that happened when he drank,” Trump told reporters during a press conference outside the White House on Monday
“This is not a man that said he was perfect with respect to alcohol, the President reflected, “I’m not a drinker and I can honestly say I never had a beer in my life. One of my only good traits. I don’t drink.”
The issue of Kavanaugh’s beer consumption came up thirty times during his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, and although he adamantly denied drunkenly assaulting a teenage girl while in high school (good to know) he was outspoken about his youthful beer drinking habits.
“I drank beer with my friends. Almost everyone did. Sometimes I had too many beers. Sometimes others did,” Kavanaugh said in his opening statements.
“I liked beer. I still like beer. But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out, and I never sexually assaulted anyone,” (Again, good to know).
Even though the Senate Judiciary committee did not as the tough beer questions that we would have asked. And no matter what questions might still linger, one can’t slight Brett Kavanaugh’s public advocacy on behalf of beer…
And maybe if President Trump had been a drinking man to begin with, he might have been less ‘surprised’ by his Supreme Court nominee’s love affair with beer…just sayin.’
