Summer’s coming and American craft brewers are addressing things with an intriguing roster of new releases you’re gonna want to have around as things heat up.
Very Tall Tales Told Over Several Beers (Wells, ME) – Batson River Brewing & Distilling, which operates four brewpub restaurants in Maine, has an interesting new release that was inspired by sitting around a campfire telling stories about the adventures of days gone by. Batson River Very Tall Tales is a 7.8% ABV India Pale Ale with bold orange, lemon, vanilla, and grapefruit notes and a fun label that features some of the most famous Maine urban legends including Sasquatch and the haunted well of Sabattus.
This particular double IPA offers a smooth, citrus-forward profile,” said Head brewer Dan Stampone. “The moderately sweet finish paired with the prominent citrus aromatics yield a complex sensory experience reminiscent of hard candy and orange creamsicle.”
The Beach Is Back (Pacific City, OR) – Pelican Brewing has new release with a laid-back style and a distinctly unfussy attitude, that captures the wind-blown beach vibes from the Oregon Coast. Available in 16-ounce cans, Pelican Beach Beer is an unpretentious 4.5% ABV Golden Ale that enters the market of value craft in a price-friendly six packs.
“We wanted to create a tasty and flavorful beer that is true to our roots and celebrates our home here on the Oregon Coast,” states Pelican Brewing’s Brewmaster of 28 years, Darron Welch. “And after years of stepping out onto the sand from the back patio of our original location in Pacific City, it was clear that Beach Beer is the right beer to carry that feeling to wherever you happen to be.
Lemon Made (Shiner, Tx) – The Spoetzl Brewery, home to the legendary Shiner Beer line has a new addition to its summer lineup that’s perfect for the season. Brewed with agave and a blend of premium 2-row and wheat malts, Shiner Lemonade Shandy is a crisp and light 4.2% ABV refresher that, like the famous European Radlers of old was crafted using real lemonade.
The history behind the Radler style is almost as zany as the half beer/fruit soda concoction itself. But to better understand the Radler, which was originally conceived in the Bavarian region of Germany and migrated to mid-18th century England where it was once known as the Shandygaff.
Today known generally as a Shandy (a beer mixed with carbonated lemonade, ginger beer, ginger ale or any variety of juice), the fruity mix is enjoying a resurgence in the US, so Shiner’s new summer seasonal is right on time.
