The winter holidays are ON and American brewers are addressing things with an intriguing roster of beers that you’ll want to have on hand.
Wanted World Wide! (Milton, DE) – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is celebrating the onset of fall with a brand-new variation of its highly sought-after World Wide Stout that is a homage to the Affogato, a classic Italian dessert.
Affogato, known in full in Italian as affogato al caffè and gelato affogato al caffè, is an Italian dessert comprising a scoop of gelato or ice cream, either plain milk-flavored or vanilla, topped with hot espresso. Some variations add a shot of amaretto, Kahlúa, or other liqueur.
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, this year’s World Wide Stout iteration, Dogfish Head Affogato World Wide Stout is an uber rich and roasty, 15% ABV Imperial Stout with added notes of espresso and sweet vanilla for a liquid version of the well-known Italian treat.

Dark & Hoppy (St Louis, MO) – Schlafly Beer has a new addition to its winter offerings that was born in the brewery’s small batch taproom and is now exclusively available as part of the Hello Darkness Variety Pack, a collection of dark niche styles.
Pouring pitch black, yet provocatively hoppy, Schlafly Black IPA is a 6% ABV Cascadian Dark Ale, an almost forgotten beer style here in the US that the brewery has artfully resurrected for the season.
“We regularly have more offbeat styles on tap at our taprooms, so the Hello Darkness pack is an opportunity to bring the talents of our brewers and the taproom experience home,” explains CEO David Schlafly. “With a market crowded with stouts and porters, we invite consumers to learn about different darker beer styles this winter.“
