Memorial Day Weekend is ON. And we’ve some interesting beer releases that should pair smartly with the beach and beyond.
Summertime Sipin’ (Portland, ME) – Allagash Brewing, a brewery renowned for its Belgium-inspired ales, is celebrating Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer, with two new limited releases, both of them (drum roll please), lagers.
Available in beach-ready 12-packs and brewed to be paired with another, Allagash Seconds To Summer is a 4.5% ABV American Lager that is crafted with traditional hops from the Czech Republic and fermented with Belgian yeast for a crisp, refreshingly hoppy finish.
A summer lager with crispness to cut through the sun’s rays, and the smarts to come in uber-gracious 16oz cans, Allagash Beach Report is a 4.2% ABV summertime Lager with a light snap of hoppiness that keeps things bright.
Clean Drinking For Cleaner Water (Comstock, MI) – Bell’s Brewery has changed up its year-round lager with a slight name alteration, a recipe change and a pledge for cleaner water. Bell’s Lager of the Great Lakes is now Bell’s Lager for the Lakes, a crisp 4.8% ABV American Lager craft to bring awareness, engagement and action behind the need to protect and preserve the availability of clean water.
To celebrate the beer’s launch, Bell’s contributed $25,000 to Alliance for the Great Lakes – a nonpartisan nonprofit organization working across the region to protect the fresh, clean and natural waters of the Great Lakes, in addition to encouraging fans to participate in their Adopt-A-Beach program.
Balancing Act (Chico, CA) – Lagers leave little place to hide, so the beer’s balance and mouthfeel matter. And Sierra Nevada’s recently returned a summer seasonal that succeeds on several levels. Deftly balanced, yet not at the cost of its complexity, Sierra Nevada Summerfest is a 5% ABV American Lager that leans a little towards a Pilsner.
