When a beer ad is fun, we like to bring them to your attention, and the ad that Guinness debuted earlier this year in Ireland is fun and then some.
Here’s the deal…
It’s no secret that we’re big Guinness Stout fans.
In 2017 American Craft Beer was invited to Ireland to cover its emerging craft beer scene. And while we were blown away by what by craft breweries like the White Hag in Sligo were doing, we ended many an evening drinking Guinness at the local pub.
Guinness does what it does and they do it well… Like this singing pint ad for Guinness 0, set to the instantly recognizable voice of 80s power ballad queen Bonnie Tyler and one of her biggest hits “Holding Out for a Hero.”
‘Holding out for a zero’ shows a tableful of warbling pints singing in tandem in the middle of a typical Irish pub in what is the brand’s biggest responsible drinking campaign to date,” according to The Drum. The spot was created by long-time agency partner AMV BBDO to mark the start of the festivities for Ireland’s most famous weekend.”
And now Guinness’ hilarious “Holding Out for a Zero” spot has finally made its way across the pond for US beer fans to enjoy.
“St Patrick’s Day is one of the key highlights in the social calendar, said Alan McAleenan, brand director of Guinness Ireland…
“We are delighted to be championing our non-alcohol beer, Guinness 0.0, in our largest-ever responsible drinking campaign in Ireland and encourage everyone to engage in an enjoyable and responsible way to make it a St Patrick’s Day to remember.”
“This has been a dream brief to work on,” Nick Andrew, managing partner at AMV BBDO, added, “finding a creative way to promote responsible drinking on a national holiday so relevant for a proudly Irish brand and to find an approach to the moderation message in a way only Guinness could.”
