Record Store Day is an international celebration of independent record store owners and employees that was launched back in 2008 to celebrate the unique culture surrounding the thousands of independently record stores

Since its launch back in 2008, it’s been held every April. But thanks to COVID-19 will take place on three Saturday over three months on Saturday, August 29th, September 26th and October 24th this year.

To help get beer and music fans celebrate the first of three Record Store Days in 2020, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has partnered with indie rock trio, Galaxie 500, for a SERIOUS limited-edition beer and vinyl release on Saturday, August 29.

“Music has always held a special place in my heart, and I love that there is a huge overlap between craft beer drinkers and passionate music lovers,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head founder, brewer and all-around good guy…

“When I founded Dogfish Head and we started brewing Analog Beers for the Digital Age, I was avidly searching for an exciting way to combine my love for music – vinyl specifically – and my passion for brewing high-quality, well-differentiated beers.”

In 2015, I met Michael Kurtz, co-founder of Record Store Day, and was presented with a picture-perfect partnership opportunity. And now, Dogfish Head has proudly been the Official Beer of Record Store Day for six consecutive years.”

This year Dogfish Head is celebrating the day with Coping Haven, a special lager inspired by the band Galaxie 500. And the band will release its iconic 1987 live performance, Copenhagen, on vinyl for the very first time.

Dogfish Head explains its 2020 Record Store Day release this way…

Coping Haven is a Danish-style Rye Pilsner brewed from ingredients inspired by historical Danish brewing tradition, including floor-malted light golden pilsner malt, hearty malted rye and a blend of Moravian hops. The result is a characterful lager with floral and herbal hop aromas, a bready and gently spicy malt flavor, and a clean, dry finish.”

To kick off things off in style this year, the brewery will be hosting a live streaming happy hour at 7pm on August 27 EST, with Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione, Michael Kurtz and David Newgarden, longtime manager of Guided By Voices and Yoko Ono

Record Store Day is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding independently owned record stores,” said Kurtz… “In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Record Store Day is sure to look much different than in years past, but during these uncertain times, supporting indie record stores in more important than ever.’
