And we’ve got to think that if you ride bulls for a living, you’re gonna need a beer from time to time.
Here’s the deal….
On January 4th , the nation’s leading brewer, Anheuser-Busch, announced that it had become the national marketing sponsor of PBR, which we know what you’re thinking does not stand for Pabst Blue Ribbon, the beloved slacker beer brand, but something more rugged, Professional Bull Riders.
That multi-year deal celebrates the riders, teams and fan of one of the fastest-growing athletic competitions in the US.
PBR is the world’s premier bull riding organization. More than 500 bull riders compete in more than 200 events annually and it’s a big deal with international circuits in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico.
And now Anheuser-Busch beer brand Busch Light is furthering that alliance with World Championship-contending bull rider, Derek Kolbaba.
From finishing No. 2 in the race for the 2017 PBR World Championship at just 21 years old, to qualifying for the PBR World Finals nine times, to putting up points for the No. 1-ranked Carolina Cowboys in the new PBR Teams league, Kolbaba is a rising star in the world of professional bull riding and has already achieved remarkable feats in the sport.
“The past year has been quite a journey, and to be back in the arena with a brand like Busch Light supporting me this season is surreal,” said Kolbaba. “Busch Light is known for giving their fans epic opportunities, so being able to team up with them to create these moments for my fans is really exciting.”
“Anheuser-Busch has been supporting PBR and rodeo cowboys since 1993 when they signed on as PBR’s first title sponsor. They also stepped up to help PBR pay the first $1 million dollar bonus to a Western sports athlete,” said PBR CEO and Commissioner Sean Gleason. “We’re very excited about everything they’ll bring to our sport.”
“As one of the longest-standing sport sponsors in the world, Anheuser-Busch and our industry leading brands continue to find innovative ways to connect with loyal fanbases through partnerships with organizations like PBR,” Brendan Whitworth, CEO, Anheuser-Busch added.
