Beer cocktails suit the moment and the melding of beer and spirits can sometimes be transcendental. And this deep-winter cocktail, which takes the barrel-aged beer concept to a new level, is a keeper.
This high-spirited winter cocktail was developed by Anderson Valley Brewing Brewmaster Fal Allen marries the pleasures of a complex barrel-aged Porter with coffee, heavy cream and vodka.
Allen’s humorously named creation, The Salty Lebowski, is crafted with Anderson Valley Salted Caramel Porter a slightly sweet, 9.5% ABV barrel-aged monster, with rich vanilla, oak, and bourbon tones
Similar to a White Russian, The Salty Lebowski is best in winter, just add a roaring fireplace and you’re done.
The Salty Lebowski
- 1 tablespoon coarse salt
- caramel syrup
- Ice
- Salted Caramel Porter
- 3/4 oz. vodka
- 1 oz. heavy cream
- 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur
Directions:
Delicately coat the rim of a highball glass with caramel syrup.
Pour (1) tablespoon of coarse salt into a plate and touch the rim of the glass gently into the salt to coat the rim.
Fill the glass with a handful of ice and pour in 3 oz of Anderson Valley Salted Caramel Porter, add 3/4 oz. non-Russian vodka, 1 oz. cream, and 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur.
Stir gently and enjoy; preferably in slippers and a bathrobe, and retire to the fireplace to contemplate the universe.
