Elysian Brewing ends brewing beer in its hometown of Seattle. We’ve that “Words to Drink By” and more.

Craft Draft Beer Makes a Comeback

There’s been plenty of bad news lately in the beer biz. Over beer sales has been slowing, and more craft breweries closing than opening in prominent brewing states like Colorado and Oregon.

But recent report by Draftline Technologies and CGA (the on-premise branch of market research firm NIQ) is showing a slight resurgence in draft beer sales, a segment of the biz that has been struggling to regain momentum ever since the COVID lockdowns. According to the report “After all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BevAl [Beverage Alcohol] outlet universe is back in solid growth.”

And even better, craft beer on draft is leading this comeback and the Washington Beer Blog explains why…

“The draft beer market is particularly important for craft beer. At pubs and bars, patrons are often exposed to new brands and different styles of beer. The taplist at the local taproom is where people explore beer and expand their beer universe. The grocery store, on the other hand, is often where people grab the same familiar, safe beers.”

Words to Drink By

“I like a good craft. But don’t make me feel bad about my beer choices. You know what kind of beer I like? I like cold beer.”  Anthony Bourdain – American celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian

Elysian Ends Beer Production in Seattle

Anheuser-Busch ended 2024 with the closure of Elysian Brewing’s production facility in Seattle, cutting the cord to the brand’s roots and moving its production to some of the mega-brewer’s other locations, a decade after the heritage brewer was purchased.

The sad news, that the world’s biggest brewer has closed down the historic brewery speaks volumes as to the company’s commitment to a once legendary craft beer brand, and should worry what craft beer properties they still control.

Elysian’s original brewery and taproom in south Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood had already closed its doors and the year-end closing of its much larger production facility has lead to an estimated 80 to 90 employees looking for work in 2025.
