Summer is ON and American craft brewers are addressing things with a smart roster of new IPAs you’re gonna want to have around.
Beastly (Petaluma, CA) – Lagunitas Brewing has anew year-round addition that elegantly melds the best aspects of both the Hazy IPA and West Coast India Pale Ale beer styles. Brewed with not just a hint of orange-ness, but a whole orange, Lagunitas The Beast of Both Worlds is a hefty 8% ABV “Bi-Coastal IPA” with undertones of mango and pineapple that are offset by a West Coast dankness. Double dry-hopped with a fruity blast of Citra & Mosaic, this beast of a beer finishes super smooth.
Rose Rules! (Chippewa Falls, WI) – Leinenkugel’s has a special limited release that was inspired by an incredible woman in the Leinenkugel’s family whose perseverance the historic Wisconsin brewery.
Having shifted to creating sodas and tonics during prohibition, when alcohol was re-legalized in 1933, Leinenkugel’s was not equipped (physically or financially) to make beer again. But Rose Leinenkugel (the daughter of the founder Jacob Leinenkugel) took on huge risk of reestablishing the brewery and the rest is history.
That rare fruit beer which is available all year-round, Leinenkugel Lakeside Cherry is a 4.4% ABV fruit take on a classic German Gose-style inspired by Rose, who mortgaged her family home to save the business and restore Leinenkugel’s to its pre-Prohibition glory.
Ghostfish Brews With Deschutes (Seattle, WA) – Ghostfish Brewing, a gluten-free brewery that’s driven to push the boundaries of craft beer, has a new collaboration brew that they did with Bend, OR-based Deschutes. Double dry-hopped with a blend of Exp 1019, Amarillo and Mosaic, Ghostfish Hoppin’ around the Bend is a 5.1% ABV gluten-free West Coast Pilsner, with big peach rings, citrus and pine aromatics, balanced with a light bitterness and a mild malt character.
“We have the utmost respect for Deschutes,” said Ghostfish Co-Founder/Co-Owner Brian Thiel. “Not only are they an iconic Pacific Northwest-based brewery, but they continue to be innovative and important in the ever-changing craft beer scene. They have been brewing and serving their own gluten-free beer inside their pubs for as long as we’ve been in existence.”
