Breweries crafting special beers for universities is a growing tradition, and not surprisingly new beer announcements seem to coincide football season. And now Louisiana’s Bayou Teche is brewing something cool for McNeese University…
Here’s the deal…
According to KATC, McNeese State University in Lake Charles, has secured the talents of one of Louisiana’s best craft breweries, Bayou Teche who is brewing the university an official beer…and amazingly that “official’ beer is not the more obvious lager…
Named after the official McNeese song that’s been played at their football games since 1951, Joli Blon (the beer) is a departure for the award-winning brewery something that Karlos Knott, Bayou Teche‘s president sees as a modern take on a traditional blonde ale….
“Blonde ale is not a style we’ve offered before…so we are excited to offer this beautiful golden blonde ale brewed in small batches with fine quality malts and American hops.”
“It’s a thirst quencher for our hot Louisiana weather and it will pair well with our spicy cuisine…I can’t tell you how excited we are to brew this beer and work with McNeese and Southwest Beverage to make Joli Blon Blonde Ale not just a local favorite, but a highly sought after craft beer throughout the region.”
Established in 2009 by brothers Karlos, Byron and Dorsey Knott on the family farm in Arnaudville, Bayou Tech Brewery produces more than 10 different handcrafted beers that are wildly popular throughout Louisiana including its flagship, LA-31 Bière Pale, which won a silver medal at the World Beer Championships in 2013.
And this isn’t the brewery’s first university collaboration…
In 2015 Bayou Teche crafted Ragin’ Cajuns Genuine Louisiana Ale for Ragin’ Cajuns Genuine Louisiana Ale for the University of Louisiana-Lafayette
McNeese and partners Bayou Teche and Southwest Beverage will debut Joli Blon at the university’s first home football game on September 15th. Then Southwest Beverage will begin distributing Joli Blon on draft to restaurants and entertainment venues throughout Southwest Louisiana on September 17th with bottles shipping to retail soon after.
