Great books like great beer never go out of style. And with the holiday shopping season now ON, we’ve been regularly showcasing some of the year’s best craft best books. And here are three more craft beer books that we really enjoyed…
The United States of Craft Beer by Jess Lebow
There are almost too many craft beer books being released nowadays. Some get too geeky – others not enough – but Jess Lebow’s “Guide to the Best Craft Breweries across America” gets it just right.
Lebow comes from the industry, having worked for the majors like Budweiser and heritage craft breweries like Redhook and his extensive background and many years of experience in the biz, informs this state-by-state exploration of America’s best breweries.
From Flying Dog in Maryland to the Maui Brewing Company in Hawaii, Lebow highlights the breweries that are doing great things and the down-low on why we should care.
Brewing Local: American-Grown Beer by Stan Hieronymus
Stan Hieronymus gets beer and brewing like few people do, and his latest on “American-grown beer” will change your walk in the woods forever.
One of the newest additions to the Brewers Publications’ growing stable of great craft beer books, Brewing Local is both an historical examination of the native ingredients that have influenced the beers that we drink today and an invaluable resource for those of us who brew.
Smart, entertaining and most importantly usable, Brewing Local is the ultimate field guide. You’ll learn to forage in your own neck of the woods for the plants, trees and roots that can be actually used in the brewing process.
With a forward written by Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione Brewing Local argues convincingly for the importance of localism and its role in the evolution of craft brewing – and it’s one of 2016’s best books on craft beer.
We Make Beer: Inside the Spirit and Artistry of America’s Craft Brewers by Sean Lewis
Sean Lewis is a California-based sports and beer writer but he also became a beer pilgrim whose life was changed by some of craft beer’s most memorable individuals. And We Make Beer is his (and their) story.
Lewis’ book takes the reader on an almost spiritual journey into the heart of the American craft brewing community, where he experienced the art of brewing with Sierra Nevada’s Ken Grossman and shared beer with Stone’s Greg Koch.
But this book is so much more than just a personal travelogue – it’s an infectious celebration of today’s American craft brewing movement – and the people who’ve helped to make it the artful and vibrant industry it is today.
