So many beers, So little time… Disregarding repeated warnings from concerned public officials, Epic Brewing is releasing a massive Imperial Stout with religious implications! We’ve got that concerning story for you plus some other serious new releases from Deschutes and Terrapin Beer that you’ll want to get your sweaty little hands on.
Widmer Brings Back Two Hits from the ’90s (Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers Brewing recently re-released two important beers in the brewery’s three-decade history as part of their 30 Beers for 30 Years Series… Both beers were brewed with the exact recipe and to the specifications of the originals at Widmer Brothers’ 10-barrel pilot brewery.
Originally introduced in 1997 and retired in 2004, Widmer’s Winternacht is the brewery’s longtime winter seasonal that’s brewed in the fashion of a Sticke Alt – a stronger, darker version of the traditional Altbier. The beer is a classic winter warmer, with a full, malty body and pronounced hop characteristics.
Widmer’s Pilsner was originally introduced in 1998 – the brewery’s first “true” lager produced on a large scale. This beer marked the first time that the brewery moved away from its house Hefeweizen yeast and pitched a standard Czech Pilsner lager yeast. The result is a traditional Czech-style Pilsner with a crisp malt body and mild hop bitterness.
A Dissident Return (Bend, OR) – After over eighteen months in isolation, Deschutes is releasing their beloved Oud Bruin. Deschutes’s The Dissident 2014 Reserve is a 10.5% ABV Flanders-style sour brown ale brewed using lavish amounts of Oregon cherries and it’s a favorite in the ACB compound. Part of their distinctive Reserve Series, this wild yeast gem is available nowin 22 oz. wax-dipped bottles and on draft – until it’s not.
Big & Bad (Salt Lake City, UT) – Epic Brewing’s newest addition to their popular Exponential Series is rolling out now – so be ready. Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout #35 is a massive, barrel-aged imperial with coffee added. Clocking in at an almost irresponsible 12.4% ABV – this Baptist is making no apologies – and neither will you.
Beer & Chocolate (Athens, GA) – Spike Buckowski and his crew at Terrapin Beer have just released a cold weather Milk Stout that’s one-of-a-kind. Terrapin’s Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout is brewed using cocoa nibs and shells from Nashville’s Olive and Sinclair Chocolate Company. Part of the brewery’s Seasonal Sessions Series, Moo-Hoo is both seasonal and, at 6% ABV, relatively sessionable, and it’s shipping just in time for the changing seasons.
