American Craft Beer doesn’t venture far from artisan beer, it’s what we know, and what we enjoy. But Modern Alchemist, a company pioneering cannabis cocktails, challenged us to stretch a little.
And over the long Thanksgiving holiday, we did.
Here’s the deal…
Modern Alchemist is a new cannabis beverage company that was launched by Nathan Kelischek and Chris Zieber, the award-winning duo behind Boone, NC-based Appalachian Mountain Brewery.
You may remember them as the cousins who made a splash in the beer biz for having reacquired their brewery from the world’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch, in 2023.
And now they helm several beverage companies including Bojangles Hard Tea, and Modern Alchemist Co., which focuses on THC- and CBD-infused mocktails.
Modern Alchemist makes its debut with three flavors – Margarita, Jungle Bird, and Citrus Spritz, made with quality all natural ingredients and true cocktail character.
Each “mocktail” is moderately dosed with 5MG US Hemp-Derived THC (that’s the mood-enhancing substance from the cannabis plant) and 5MG of CBD (the non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis plant that comes with all kinds of health benefits).
Currently available in NC, SC, TN, GA, FL, and TX and on DTC for applicable states, these modern mocktails match the times, each is low in sugar and focused on elevating your drinking experience without the booze.
So how is drinking a cannabis beverage different from alcohol?
In spite of the undeniable growth of non-alcohol craft beer, American Craft Beer has long argued that the primary reason people drink is for mood enhancement. Alcohol is a drug, different, yet no different from cannabis, when the goal is to get high.
Cannabis beverages like Modern Alchemist Cannabis Infused Margarita offers the traditional taste of a tart and sassy cocktail, but with an entirely different head.
As American Craft Beer has long advocated over the years, beer and cannabis drinks are both beverages designed to be enjoyed for how they taste, as well as for how they make you feel.
And just as alcohol comes in differing strengths that impact the kind of head they deliver. So do cannabis drinks, which can come with differing amounts of THC that impact how high you feel.
Well aware that their cannabis mocktails deliver a high that some beer-drinkers may be less familiar with, Modern Alchemist crafted three variations that come with a relatively low dose of THC, so consumers can enjoy the uniquely different buzz they deliver without being overwhelmed.
Alcoholic drinks hit you faster than cannabis beverages. You feel a beer much more quickly than most cannabis drinks which take bit to kick in. Also beer buzz dissipates relatively quickly, depending on how many drinks you’ve had, while a cannabis drink’s effects hang in there much longer.
So when you’re looking at mood-enhancing beverages, it’s a personal call, different strokes for different folks, be it a delicious cannabis mocktail or a fresh IPA.
