TripAdvisor Picks America’s Best Brewery Tours

You know about TripAdvisor, right? They bill themselves as the world’s largest travel site and they allow users to rate and share their travel experiences online. Well they’ve recently released their list of America’s Top 10 Brewery Tours and we thought it was kind of fun.

According to TripAdvisor, their Top 10 Brewery list was a compiled using feedback from both the site’s editors and the opinions of the travelers themselves, but they were no more specific than that.

So here’s what they think are the best brewery tours in the country – as well as what we think of their choices.

That TripAdvisor’s first choice was Saint Louis, Missouri’s Anheuser Busch Brewery Tour, should come as no surprise as they really were the originators of the modern beer tour. They were also the first major brewer to see brewery tours as more than just the marketing of a brand but also as an entertainment that can be built upon. They added the legendary Budweiser Clydesdale Stable to the tours, as well as the well as the Beechwood Lager Cellars and historic Brew House. Visitors can now spend hours touring the grounds. The massive theme parks that they built around the country were, in essence, inspired by what began in Saint Louis, half a century ago.

Boston’s Sam Adams Brewery tour is no stranger to lists like these and they deserve to be included. Their tours are regular (they run every 45 minutes), they’re free (though you’re invited to make a $2 donation that goes to charities) and they give you an entertaining walk through of the entire brewing process. Plus they’re in Boston and it’s a great city to visit anytime!

Coors Brewery was TripAdvisor’s third choice and though we understand that they’re a major name in brewing- It surprised us that TripAdvisor rated the Colorado based brewery so highly. In fact, Colorado now has so many great craft breweries and tours, that we could almost do a legitimate top-10 list for this state alone. But Coors wouldn’t be on our list.

Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin believes that their’s a direct correlation between the amount of beer that you can drink during your tour and how much you enjoy it – and we couldn’t agree more. We’ve never been to Lakefront but given TripAdvisor’s descriptions, we intend to visit soon…Plus the brewery is on a lake and lakes go well with beer!

Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company sits on a picturesque riverside-setting in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Free tours take in the history of the company, which dates back over 140 years and has been led by five generations of Leinenkugels, and ends up with a visit to their historic sampling bar. This tour sounds perfect to us. It’s like a scenic history lesson where you can drink beer!

There are tons of good reasons to visit the San Diego area and Stone Brewery is most defiantly one of them! Stone takes the concept of the craft brewery as travel destination seriously and their facility is world-class. After an enjoyable 45 minute tour you can relax in their World Bistro & Gardens, drink their brilliant beer and dine on food grown locally. Future plans include the addition of a hotel and we’re thinking time-shares might be a good idea!

Athens Georgia-basedTerrapin Beer Company was TripAdvisor’s seventh pick and we think it’s a good one! Athens has a legendary music scene and Terrapin Brewery offers live music and a festive atmosphere. Tours run Thursday through Saturday evenings and offer visitors the insider’s view of their 40,000 square foot brewing operation.

Boston-basedHarpoon Brewery was TripAdvisor’s eighth pick and we’d suggest that visitors also check out their second brewery located in the in the scenic enclave of Windsor, Vermont. Hey we get that the original Boston-based brewery might be easier for most visitors to get to and they give a decent tour…but their Vermont brewery is located in a beautiful New England village and has wood-burning stove to enjoy you beer around….just sayin’.

, TripAdvisor Picks America’s Best Brewery ToursFort Collin’s New Belgium Brewery Tour is one of America’s best. Everything New Belgium Brewing does speaks to their unified vision. From the brewery’s eco-friendly architecture to all the bikes that line the employee parking lot – this facility is truly one of a kind. The tours are great! They operate Tuesday through Saturday and offer visitors a 90-minute tasting and a stroll around the brewery.

TripAdvisor’s final pick, Kansas City, Missouri-based Boulevard Brewing Company is a favorite of ours and their tours are very popular. Their tours are so popular that TripAdvisor suggests booking a visit in advance….well in advance. Tours get even more difficult to schedule once winter arrives, when taking in Boulevard’s 45-minute, guided walk-through, and tasting of an array of seasonal specialties beats just about anything going on outside.
