The Day I Became a World Record Holder

, The Day I Became a World Record HolderWhen I was younger, I was a little bit obsessed with the Guinness Book of World Records. I’m not sure if it was because of the crazy holographic covers or the images inside of enormous pizzas and people with really long fingernails, but I remember fanaticizing about the day when I would be a part of one of those history-making moments.

I was determined, but realized rather quickly that breaking a world record was a lot harder than I had thought; I got bored trying to hula hoop for days and no matter how delicious they are, I simply could not eat that many hot dogs. But today, I am writing to say proudly that I have finally done it!

, The Day I Became a World Record HolderOn Sunday April 28, 2013, with a little help from Flying Dog Brewery, Hough’s Taproom and Brewpub in Pittsburgh, and 293 other beer lovers, we broke the record for the World’s Largest Beer Tasting. Hundreds of people came out for an enormous block party and accepted the task of drinking and rating four pints of delicious Flying Dog beer in the quest to rewrite history and bring the coveted record to the U.S. (which was previously set by 267 participants in the Netherlands). You had better believe that when the record broke, a hauntingly beautiful chant rang out through the streets of Greenfield as the gleeful participants shouted “USA! USA! USA!”

, The Day I Became a World Record HolderThe party continued on after the record was set. Each of the almost 300 people that came out on the rainy afternoon drank pints of In-Heat Wheat, Doggie Style Pale Ale, Gonzo Imperial Porter, and El Dorodo Double IPA while eating amazing hot dogs (no records here though) and grilled cheese sandwiches from local food trucks. Also present at the event was Flying Dog’s pimped-out RV. The multicolored motor masterpiece was simple and prefect with plush bench seats, chalkboard walls, 4 beer taps (two inside, two outside), and an amazing external sound system to keep the party going! I think I’ve decided that I don’t really need a car with this ultimate party mobile around!

From the food to the beer to the overwhelming pride that comes from setting a new world record, the event was an absolute blast. As we rang out the end of the day with a huge toast, I found myself hoping that maybe next year they might try to break 300. So here’s to all of you who came out to make history! USA! USA! USA!
