The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 5, 2014

Hey it’s Friday… And even with a shortened work week you’re ready to shut down and have some fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of awesome ideas for you. From the nation’s coolestbeer festivals to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 5, 2014Border Crossing (Victoria, BC) – There’s always a good reason to head north to beautiful British Columbia and attending the 22nd annual Great Canadian Beer Festival, taking place in Victoria this weekend, should be one of them. Royal Athletic Park will once again host this two-day event (Sept 5th-6th) that will feature 55 of the most brilliant breweries from Canada, the US and Belgium along with music, food and festivities. For more info on this Canadian beerganza check out: Great Canadian Beer Fest 2014 – You can thank us later.

On the Big Screen – This week’s new movie opening’s are as weak as last week’s was – which can only mean that summer is officially over and that we are entering early fall – a historically bad time for movie attendance and a time when Hollywood conveniently  drops all their questionable flicks. There’s the terribly named The Identical which tells the story of two brothers unknowingly separated at birth.  One of them becomes an iconic rock ‘n’ roll star (think Elvis), while the other struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father. We suggest that you only attend this movie if you are severely hung-over and absolutely can’t take any sunlight. Otherwise check out Guardians of the Galaxy – this summer’s best flick.

Want To Get Screwed?  (Rockford, IL) –  How do you not make an event named the Screw City Beer Festival a weekend pick? The answer is you don’t. Well you can get your minds out of the gutter now gang, because Rockford, Illinois (which is hosting this event this , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 5, 2014Saturday) was once the “Screw Capital” of the country and this festival pays tribute to the city’s storied industrial past. For more info on this “questionably named” hedonistic beer outing, check out: Screw City Beer Fest …and if any of you go, will you please buy us a T-shirt?

Boston Calling Returns this Weekend (Boston, MA) – One of the Northeast’s most exciting musical events returns to the HUB this weekend and if you care about music you need to be there. Boston Calling Fall 2014is three-days (Sept 5th-7th) of great music and our Boston Correspondent, Juliana Casale, will no doubt be rocking her way through all of it. Performers we’re psyched about this year include Lourde, Bleachers and The National – but they’re just a small part of an awesome lineup of talent. They’ll also be serving some serious beer at this year’s event and you can read all about that in Juliana’s Exclusive Interview with Boston Beer’s Jim Koch
