The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 12, 2014

Hey it’s Friday…Work’s been brutal and you’re ready to shut things down and turn it up. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of awesome ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 12, 2014Snallygaster 2014 (Washington, DC) – One of the perks of doing what we do at ACB is that we get invited to attend a lot of great craft beer festivals – and Snallygaster which is taking place this Saturday (Sept 13th) in the Nation’s Capital, is absolutely one of the best! If you’ve never attended this amazing event – you need to – and here’s why. Unlike so many craft beer festivals that offer a roster of familiar standards along with the occasional rarity, Snallygaster does just the opposite. All the beers being served this weekend have been carefully curated by craft beer wunderkind Greg Engert, the Beer Director and Managing Partner for the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. This year, Greg’s assembled a beasty 275 beers from all around the world – and they’re the kinds of offerings that you only see at the most acclaimed craft beer outings like the Firestone Walker Invitational.

On the Big Screen – This week’s new movie openings are even worse than last week’s were  – which can only mean  that we are officially entering early fall – a historically bad time for movie attendance and a time when Hollywood conveniently  drops all their bombs. No Good Deed stars the wonderful Idris Elba as an escaped convict who invades the house of a suburban mother (Taraji P. Henson) and terrorizes her family. This movie sounds truly , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 12, 2014awful (which may be the only reason we picked it) and we suggest that you only attend this movie if you are severely hung-over or hiding out from someone you owe money, and absolutely can’t be seen in public. Otherwise check out –Guardians of the Galaxy – the best movie so far this year!

Great Beer / Great Lakes/ Great Times (Racine, WI) – the 11th annual Great Lakes Beer Fest returns to the Racine Zoo this Saturday (Sept 13th) and you don’t want to miss it. This year’s afternoon event will feature more than 400 offerings including ciders, meads and rare limited releases from the region’s most brilliant brewers. This legendary festival is beloved not onl, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 12, 2014y for its beers but also for its spectacular setting which offers a spectacular view of Lake Michigan. TV Time – Can a television drama be both sick yet compelling? We think Showtime’s Ray Donovan is both. Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, Ray Donovan is a “fixer” who does the dirty work for LA’s top power players. The one-hour series stars Liev Schreiber in his first lead television role as the go-to guy who makes the problems of the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear.  This series (now in its second season) is the ultimate guilty pleasure- which is probably why we can’t stop watching it.
