The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 15, 2015

Hey the work week is almost a wrap… And it’s time for some springtime fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals, movies, and music to cutting-edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve a special weekend beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 15, 2015Serious Music & Beer (Tulsa, OK) – Remember HANSON, three brothers from Tulsa who shook up the pop music scene back in the 90s? Well they’ve grown up, are still touring the world, and making great music. They’ve also expanded their creative vision over the years – and even have their own craft beer nowadays, and this Sunday (May 16th) they’re throwing a festival that pulls a lot of their interests together when the second annual Hop Jam Beer and Music Festival returns to Tulsa’s Brady Arts District. This is serious music (the concert itself will feature HANSON along with artists like The Polyphonic Spree, Black Joe Lewis, and Jamestown Revival) as well as a serious showcase of the region’s growing craft beer scene. Oklahoma’s most cutting-edge breweries will all be here. And they’ll be joined by major players from all around the country – breweries like Jester King, Ommegang, Jolly Pumpkin, Boulevard, and Lagunitas are also coming in. Festivals like this year’s Hop Jam exemplify the growing fusion of craft beer and music – events that celebrate both crafts equally. It’s an exciting trend for these two entertainment industries – and we’re all about it!

On the Big Screen – One of this season’s most anticipated movies, Mad Max: Fury Road is opening this weekend and we’ve already bought our tickets! The fourth film in this legendary Australian post-apocalyptic series, Fury Road is directed, produced, and co-written by George Miller – and if it’s even half as good as those other films were, we are in for an awesome ride. The first film of the franchise in over 30 years, this reboot stars Tom Hardy as the “road warrior” and Charlize Theron as Furiosa, a rogue vigilante with a mechanical left arm and a bad attitude.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 15, 2015Plan To Get Canned This Weekend! (Scottsdale, AZ) – This Saturday (May 15th) Santan Brewing is once again hosting the Ameri-Can Canned Beer Festival – a celebration of serious craft beer in cans. Over 250 canned craft beers will be featured along with the Craft Can Award Ceremony, live entertainment, artisan food, and even a Beer Science Garden. For more info and a complete listing of all the breweries attending, check out: 2015 AmeriCAN Canned Craft Beer Festival

TV Time – If you care about serious TV, then you already know that the new season of Game of Thrones returned to HBO a couple of weeks back. And if you’ve never watched this brilliant adult-fantasy, it’s time to rethink how you’re living your life. As dark as The Sopranos and maybe even Breaking Bad – HBO’s production of George R.R. Martin’s best-selling books is game-changing television that will stand the test of time.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 15, 2015OUR WEEKEND BEER PICK

We had some friends from Deschutes in town last week to introduce their deserving brand to the DC and Northern Virginia marketplace – and we promised them we’d make one of their awesome beers a Weekend Pick. But that’s easy because their 5.2% ABV Black Butte Porter is an ACB favorite and it’s available now in the mid-Atlantic.
