The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 1, 2015

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 1, 2015Hey the work week is almost a wrap… And it’s time for some springtime fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals, movies and music to cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.  Plus we’ve a special weekend beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks

Craft Beer From Five Boroughs Comes Together (Long Island City, NY) – The craft beer scene that has exploded throughout New York City and its environs comes together this weekend when the Five Boro Craft Beer Fest returns to Studio Square NYC on Saturday night. This year’s throwdown will feature over 100 craft beers from 44 of the region’s best breweries and include several small limited editions that were brewed especially for this May 1st event. All proceeds benefit Grow NYC – they’re good people so we’re happy about that. For a complete rundown of everything that will be going down, be sure to check out 5 Boro Craft Beer Fest.

On The Big Screen – It’s nothing short of a superhero megathon, when the sequel to 2012’s The Avengers opens nationally this weekend. Directed once again by Joss Weldon, Avengers: Age of Ultron, starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson – adds additional Marvel superheroes like Ant-Man to the increasingly crowded mix. This is where film is at in 2015, and no matter the reviews, it will be huge. So be there or be square – just sayin’.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – May 1, 2015Drinking in The Gateway City (Saint Louis, MO) – The 20th annual St. Louis Microfest is returning to Forest Park this weekend and it’s going to be a total blast. This two-day (May 2nd-3rd), three-session event will feature beer from the region’s best craft brewers and international offerings as well. There will be food and live music, brewer and chef demonstrations, and all kinds of cool things going on. Profits from the festival go toward funding Lift For Life Gym, an organization that has provided safe activities for children 8 to 18 years old, five evenings a week, all free of charge since 1988. For ticket information and updates, check out: St. Louis Microfest.

TV Time – ACB’s home offices are in Washington, DC. And in this town, politicians are everywhere and they are treated more as celebrities than esteemed dignitaries. Veep which recently returned to HBO for its fourth season, skewers this faux-political class (and their enablers) brilliantly and we love them for it. Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Selina Meyer a one-time Vice President who is, at least for now, hilariously the President of the United States.

With summer on its way and the temperatures rising we find ourselves turning to lower-alcohol IPA and Deschutes brews a good one that sometimes gets overlooked. Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale is their 5% ABV flagship – and it’s a classic.
