, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 8, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and if you’re like us, you are ready for a break. You’ve been killing it at work this week and you’re in desperate need of fun. That’s where we , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 8, 2013come in! We’re all about it and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got a special weekend beer pick for you too…So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

Hey there are lots of great things happening this weekend in the Pacific Northwest and if you’re up there, you may just have to clone yourself to get to everything. Seattle’s new Machine House Brewery, which specializes in small-batch English-style ales, is throwing a HOUSE PARTY on Saturday (3/9). It all starts at noon and there will be DJ’s, live music, brewery tours and even an art show…so you know what to do.

Out in Kent, Washington, Airways Brewing will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary with a PARTY on Saturday (3/9) and even some of the ACB crew will be there. It all takes place, at their place, from 2-7 and word has it that they’ll be pulling out some rare stash and going crazy.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 8, 2013There are two movies opening this weekend that caught our attention. We might have never picked Oz the Great and Powerful if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s directed by Sam Raimi, who’s made some great movies in the past (including the legendary Evil Dead). As a director, he can be both brutal and funny, and if he brings that dynamic to Oz, things could get interesting. Our other movie pick is Dead Man Down and really, we’d pick it for its neo-noir name alone – but there are other reasons that you might want to go. One big reason is that it’s directed by the guy who did the original Dragoon Tattoo and that it also reunites him with that series’ star, Noomi Rapace.

There’s nothing more fun than hitting a new brewery on its opening day, and there will be two new breweries opening in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood this weekend. Populuxe Brewing, an “almost” nano-brewery, is throwing open its doors today (3/8) at 5pm. The bicycle-themed, Peddler Brewing Company, also opens this Friday and some of the ACB crew will most likely be dropping by there as well!

New Orleans will be home to one of America’s most interesting festivals this weekend when the Buku Music + Art Project comes to town. Utilizing five unique stages positioned all over the city, Buku will present some of the biggest stars of EDM, Hip-Hop, and indie-rock in an intimate setting that is totally NOLA. Featured artists include the likes of Alt-J, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi Primus and Passion Pit. For more info on this one-of-a -kind music & arts festival, check out: Buku 2013

Our Weekend Beer Pick

New Belgium Brewing recently introduced their new “Hop Kitchen” four beer series, which will be released in 22 oz bottles and on draft in select markets in 2013.The first release under the “Hop Kitchen” banner is Hoppy Bock Lager and it’s out there now. This beer is a medium-bodied German-style lager brewed with rye and Hallertauer, Perle and Fuggle hops. “Hoppy Bock” is 6.9% ABV and sounds like a whole lot of fun.
