Play Ball (Washington, DC) – Two wonderful craft beer and cuisine events take place every
, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEKEND PICKSyear at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. SAVOR happens every June – and the other event takes place tomorrow Saturday, March 7th, when the 10th Anniversary Brewer’s Ball returns to the Nation’s Capital. This gala event will feature amazing craft beers from more than 30 of the region’s best breweries and delectable cuisine from over 20 popular and exciting regional restaurants. The Brewer’s Ball is craft beer, cuisine, music, and fun in a spectacular setting. It’s a one-of-a-kind event that shouldn’t be missed, and its proceeds help fund a very deserving cause. For more ticket information, check out: 10th Anniversary Brewers Ball

On The Big Screen – An Australian director shook up the film world with the release of District 9 back in 2009. It was a masterful and entertaining work and many critics started calling him the “new Spielberg.” His ambitious follow-up, Elysium, was a bit of a disappointment, so we’re hoping his newest release is a return to form. Based in the near-future, Chappie is a stolen police droid in a world now controlled by an oppressive mechanized police force. The missing droid is then given new programming and becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself.

, THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEKEND PICKSBockfest Over The Rhine (Cincinnati, OH) – The 23rd annual Bockfest is taking place this weekend in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine and the brewery districts. This three-day event is the oldest and the largest in the United States and it celebrates both the city’s brewing heritage and the coming of spring. It all kicks off tonight (3/6) with a parade that weaves through the city’s neighborhoods and ends up at Bockfest Hall for the blessing of the ceremonial first keg. (It doesn’t get any cooler than that – does it?) The Hall, which will remain open all weekend, will feature live entertainment, food, walking tours, and, of course, plenty of bock beer. TV Time – NBC takes a serious shot at premium channels like HBO with their new dramatic foray, The Slap. An American adaptation of an Australian series of the same name, this eight installment miniseries revolves around the aftermath of a birthday party, where an adult male slaps someone else’s misbehaving child with repercussions that turn families and friends against one another. Each episode tells the story from the perspective of a different character, and everyone’s take on what actually happened that afternoon is both telling and different. Filmed on location in New York City, this gripping drama boasts a deep and accomplished cast including Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, and Uma Thurman. A fascinating study of family, failures, and modern urban manners, The Slap makes for some truly compelling TV.

Spring’s coming (even though many of us are still digging out), and Gordon Biersch has brewed the perfect beer to celebrate its return. Gordon Biersch Maibock is a 7.2% ABV German-style lager that’s brewed in adherence to the “Reinheitsgebot” (the German purity law of 1516) and is making no apologies for doing so!
