We’re all about the fun and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got some special weekend beer picks for you too…So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – February 15, 2013Omaha Beer Week kicks off this weekend and if you’re out that way, you don’t want to miss it! This ten-day celebration starts today and runs through next Sunday, February 24, and will be taking place all over the city. There will be a bus crawl, meet-the-brewer events, a homebrew competition, and special tastings….But most importantly, THERE WILL BE BEER! For more info and updates on what promises to be “too much fun,” check out: Omaha Beer week 2013

Hollywood’s been looking for a franchise to replace its enormously successful and now completed Harry Potter series and they’re hoping that Beautiful Creatures might fill that void. “Beautiful Creatures” is the first of a four book series that takes southern gothic into fantasyland and tells interrelated tales about a family of witches in a small southern town…And if this all sounds too Disney to you (and we get that) there’s always the latest in Bruce Willis’ seemingly endless Die Hard series – A Good Day to Die Hard – which may not be great, but you’ve got to admit, has the best title in the world!

Tacoma, Washington’s got a big one going this Saturday, February 16 – that’s when the 2013 Big Beer Festival is taking place. It’s all happening at the Foss Waterway Seaport in downtown Tacoma and it sounds like a blast! There will be two sessions – one in the afternoon and another in the evening – and each will feature more than 60 “big” beers from twenty of the region’s best breweries! For more info and updates on this weekend’s event, check out: Big Beer Festival

You may not know it, but Iceland’s got one of the world’s most unique music scenes going on and they are celebrating it this weekend at the Sónar Reykjavík 2013, which they bill as an International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art. If you’ve ever been to Iceland, you know that it looks like a different planet. And who doesn’t want to attend a trippy music festival that’s taking place on another planet? The music is beyond avant-garde and features artists the likes of Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, Asgeir Trausti, Axel Boman and Bloodgroup. We’ve never heard of these groups and that only makes us want to go more! For more info on what promises to be a truly mind-blowing music festival, check out: Sónar Reykjavík 2013

Our Weekend Beer Picks

Hey, we don’t care what you think…We need a breather from all these heavy-duty winter seasonals. And so, in a nod to our high school years, we are going all lager this weekend!

Flying Dog’s UnderDog Atlantic Lager was recently added to the brewery’s year-round lineup, and it’s fast becoming a classic!

New Belgium’s Shift Pale Lager is another great lager that’s subtly hopped. This awesome year-round brew only comes canned and we think that only adds to its appeal.
