The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – December 19, 2014

Hey it’s Friday and you’re ready for anything that doesn’t involve more holiday shopping. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to  movies, music, and cutting-edge TV  we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve a weekend beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…

Get As Far Away As You Can From An American Mall This Weekend (Essen, Belgium) – With the holidays now solidly upon us, there’s understandably “zero” craft beer taking place in the states – but there is something cool happening this weekend (Dec. 20th21st) in Belgium. Kerstbierfestival, which means (as some of you may have already guessed) “Christmas Beer Festival” in English, is a two-day event that will feature more than 170 Belgian Christmas and Winter Ales. And if that’s not enough, they will also be serving up hot Gluhkriek (!), soup, beef stew, and bread prepared with Christmas beer. Last year’s festival attracted an international audience who came in from 37 countries throughout the world – so we expect some of you to represent.

On The Big Screen – As much as we enjoyed Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings,” we were at first underwhelmed by his return to Middle-Earth in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. But things picked up in his second outing – The Desolation of Smaug, so we’re hopeful about his final installment of this trilogy – which opens this weekend. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies continues the story of Bilbo and his company of dwarf companions as they square off against warring armies and dragons with vendettas.

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Tour!!!!! – We love Christmas Music here at ACB and if you’re anything like us  there’s a tour out there now that you don’t want to miss. It’s the 30th Anniversary for Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas Tour and if you’ve never been to one – it’s time to rethink your priorities! This is Christmas music on steroids and the light show alone is worth the price of admission. This thing is on now and runs through the 28th. You can find out the where and when here: Tour 2014

Our Weekend Beer Pick

Last night, we were turned on to something we’d never tried before from Boulevard, and it might just be one of the best holiday releases of this year! Boulevard Nutcracker Ale is a 7.8% ABV dry-hopped winter warmer that, unlike so many beers brewed in the style, shows real hop character and doesn’t drink like a dessert. Fantastic!
