The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 18, 2014

Hey it’s Friday… Spring has finally sprung and you’re ready for the fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music, and cutting-edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. We’ve also a Weekend Beer Pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking.

So welcome to our awesome Easter Holiday Weekend Picks…

What, You Can’t Drink Craft Beer While You’re Looking for Easter Eggs? The Easter holiday has definitely limited the amount of craft beer festivities happening this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some cool things going on…

You Can Always Count On This Beer City (San Diego, CA) – What city other than San Diego would have the good sense to put on a beer festival in the midst of an Easter Holiday weekend? At the same time that the lesser committed are dyeing Easter eggs and cooking up ham, these people will be guzzling beer at the CityBeat Festival of Beers! This year’s event takes place tomorrow (4/19) at the Lafayette Hotel in downtown San Diego and will feature beer from more than 45 of the region’s most dynamic breweries. There will be three great bands performing, abundant food, and VIP tickets that get you in early and allow you access to some of the brewers’ secret stash. Don’t Do Easter. Do This! For more info on THE antidote to the world’s most boring holiday, check out: CityBeat Festival of Beers

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 18, 2014On The Big Screen – There’s only one movie pick that’s appropriate for this Easter Holiday weekend and that’s the Academy Award-winning Director Darren Aronofsky’s newest flick. Noah (yep that Noah) stars Russell Crowe (as Noah) in a CGI leaden retelling of the biblical story. If you’ve seen any of the film’s trailers (that look like they came straight from the Lord of the Rings trilogy), you’ll understand that this film may owe more to films like The Hobbit than anything you learned in Sunday school – not that that’s a bad thing.

Desert Strong (Scottsdale, AZ) – We’ve got to admit that even though we’ve covered all kinds of beer festivals, this one’s like nothing we’ve ever heard of before. This Saturday, April 19, the Fear Farm Sports Complex in Scottsdale is hosting the 2014 Strong Man Beer Festival. This festival consists of two events. The first part consists of a Strong Man Competition with all kinds of exercise challenges. And the second part is a beer festival with live music, food trucks, and tons of other things going on. TV Time – HBO’s brilliantly cruel adult fantasy Game of Thrones debuted two weeks ago and if you haven’t already started watching the 4th season – we’ll just be honest with you – you’re drinking too much. Last week’s episode (SPOILER ALERT) brutally dispatched another key character and from what we hear, things are only going to get uglier this Sunday at 9pm EST. With its huge cast of characters and its sweeping scope, this battle of families in the mythical kingdom of Westeros is richly conceived and beautifully envisioned. This is the kind of production and storytelling that puts today’s Hollywood movies to shame. Brutal, sexy, and unforgiving – Game of Thrones is epic TV and should not be missed!
