, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 12, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and the weekend’s almost here. And as far as we’re concerned, it can’t come quick enough. It’s time for a break and you’re ready for some fun, and that’s where we come in! We’re all about it and we’ve got your back big-time. Plus, we’ve got our special weekend beer pick that you’ll want to chase down.

So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

Hey, the Boston Beer Summit is taking place this weekend and we’re all about it. This is the 14th year for this two-day, three-session festival and it just might be their best ever. It’s all taking place at the Park Plaza Castle and they’ll be featuring more than 200 beers from 60 of this country’s best breweries. Yes, there will be food, and yes, there will be music, but most importantly, THERE WILL BE BEER… so you don’t want to miss it. For more info on this weekend’s fun-fest, check out: Boston Beer Summit

Is there a surer sign signaling the beginning of summer than a baseball movie opening this weekend? We don’t think so and that’s why we’ve already purchased tickets to 42. It’s the story of baseball great Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey. And it’s both written and directed by Brian Helgeland, who has been involved in some great movies in the past including L.A. Confidential and Mystic River, so we’re hopeful about this one!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – April 12, 2013The Richmond and Central VA craft beer scene is growing faster than we can keep up with – but thanks to the inaugural Carytown Craft Beer Fest, you won’t have to travel across the region to sample a diverse array of area brews. On April 14 from noon to 6 pm, the downtown Richmond festival will feature 20 local brews, from new hotshots like Hardywood and Midnight Brewery to more established stalwarts like Devils Backbone and Starr Hill. Did we mention tickets include unlimited beer samples? So if trying some of the region’s finest brews, smack dab in the middle of Richmond’s coolest and most eclectic neighborhood of shops and restaurants sounds like a great way to spend your Sunday, then you certainly need to check it out!

We know that you probably can’t make this one, but it just sounds so damn cool that we’re running with it anyway. The 2nd annual Beertopia Hong Kong will be taking place this Saturday, April 13th, somewhere closer to the Pacific Rim than to us. Billed “Hong Kong’s only craft beer festiva,l” this year’s event will be held on the West Kowloon Waterfront. There will be more than 150 beers from all around the world available at Beertopia, so even though it involves 21 hours of non-stop flying, you should most definitely try to be there. Music Festivals don’t get much bigger than Coachella 2013 and the first leg of this legendary two-weekend festival (April 12th – 14th & April 19th – 21st) is kicking off today. With its close proximity to Los Angeles, Coachella draws visitors from around the world, many seeking out their first US festival experience. Think of Coachella as our official Ambassador of Music Festivals. And it’s not a question of who’s performing at this year’s Coachella…It’s more like who’s not performing there. Our Weekend Beer Pick

Firestone Walker Brewing Company is set to release the 2013 vintage of Parabola, their limited-edition Oatmeal Stout, on April 15. The 2013 vintage marks the fourth release of this stout, which is part of Firestone Walker’s Proprietor’s Reserve Series. According to Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, the recipe remains the same except for one twist – this year’s Parabola features batches aged in barrels from Four Roses Distillery in Kentucky. The 2013 version is limited to 3,500 cases of 22oz bottles, so you know what to do!
