The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – September 17, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time….The craft beer distribution map is changing so fast our heads are spinning. We’ll get into all those changes and on to other things that are breaking now in the world of craft beer. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately.

We don’t sleep so you can….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

Victory Lap (Downingtown, PA) – Victory Brewing is rolling the dice and taking their game to “Sin City.” Nevada is their 35th distribution state and they’re making no apologies.”Nevada has a huge craft beer culture that celebrates everything about brewing, drinking and appreciating all there is in the business,” said Vice President of Sales & Marketing Steve German. Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada will distribute Victory and we’re happy for them.

Big Beer to Get Bigger? (London) – Anheuser-Busch InBev NV is reportedly exploring financing that would allow them to make a deal that could potentially bring together the world’s two largest brewers. The WSJ is reporting that the international beer “conglom” is talking to banks in an effort to drum up $122 billion to buy their rival, SABMiller PLC.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – September 17, 2014Boulevard on the Beach? (Kansas City, MO) – Just days after adding northern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania to its distribution territory, Boulevard Brewing Company revealed that its beers will soon be available in Florida. Late last week, the brewery inked an agreement with Brown Distributing, which serves the entire state. With this latest expansion, Boulevard beers will be sold in 28 states and DC.

Good People, Great Beer List (NYC) – Our friends at the New York City Brewers Guild are hosting their annual fundraiser “Blocktoberfest” this Saturday, September 20th in Brooklyn. This worthy event (that helps raise money for NYC Beer Week) will feature a 5,000-sq-foot indoor beer garden and a 3,000-sq-foot outdoor seating area located in and around Kelso Beer Company. You should go for the beer list alone.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who have shared their wares with us in the past and those of you who have shipped us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night, we enjoyed a Bock Lager that the folks at Gordon Biersch were kind enough to send our way. Originally brewed by European monks “back in the day” and consumed by them during fasting periods, bock beers were all the rage in the 1600s.The 7% ABV Gordon Biersch Blonde Bock is an admirable take on the style – malty and perfect for the changing seasons.
