The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 28, 2015

October’s almost over and absolutely nothing is slowing down anytime soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 28, 2015ACB Misses Another National American Beer Day (Everywhere, USA) – In yet another sign of “National Day” overkill, it got by us that yesterday (October 27th) was designated by someone (who are these people?) as National American Beer Day. But given our ongoing commitment to IPA Day (luv yah, Ashley) and the fact that we might occasionally mention National Lager Day if someone reminds us, we’re not sure that we even care that we missed it. That said we hope everybody got totally blasted!

Urban Farmhouse To Open At 3 Stars (Washington. DC) – Our friends at 3 Stars have announced that they’ve added a 100 person “Urban Farmhouse” tasting room and event space inside their brewery. Conceived and constructed by design firm Studio 3877 and crafted using reclaimed wood and corrugated metal the 60-seat country-style “Urban Farmhouse” is a freestanding space within the brewery’s warehouse. Sounds awesome guys!

Words To Drink By (Los Angeles, CA) – “You can deny the future, but it’s gonna happen anyway.”

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 28, 2015Africa The Real Target Of Mega Beer Merger (Uganda) – Clearly there’s lots of advantages than AB InBev saw in acquiring SABMiller but the biggest might be that it would give them a hold on Africa’s growing beer market. According to ABC News “SABMiller, the descendant of South African Breweries, has stretched its tentacles across the continent, betting that Africans will shift to higher quality beers as economic development increases disposable income. It now has operations in 17 countries on the continent, with another 21 covered by Castel Group, in which it has a stake.”

Beriberi Found In Scottish Beer Drinkers (Glasgow) – Yikes… The Guardian is reporting on a worrisome discovery… The scourge of Beriberi (even its name creeps us out) is being seen for the first time in Scotland. The result a pronounced Thiamine (B-!) deficiency, Beriberi has been up until now, more commonly associated with counties like “like Australia, Bavaria and the Bantu community of South Africa.”

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Manhattan, KS) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us a better feel for what’s happening out there. And last night we hit up a Pint of something we really enjoyed from Tallgrass.Billed as the brewery’s “next generation of pale ales,” Tallgrass 16-Bit DPA is a 6.2% hop-forward American Pale Ale that ups both the ABV and IBUs.
