The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 1, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time….What popular brewery won’t be brewing their most popular beer at their own brewery in 2015? We’ll get into that and on to other things that are breaking right now in the world of craft beer. Plus we’ve a super-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately.

We don’t sleep so you can….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 1, 2014Beer Flights Pop Up at DIA (Denver, CO) – Denver’s International Airport recently set up a temporary beer garden in its main terminal featuring 11 in-state breweries such as Avery Brewing Company, Breckenridge Brewery, Bristol Brewing Company, Dry Dock Brewing Company, Great Divide Brewing Company, and others. USA Today is reporting that “most of the beers represented in the beer garden also are available year-round in airport pubs and restaurants.”

Meet Your State’s Beer Guild at This Year’s GABF (Denver, CO) – The GABF is offering all kinds of new educational opportunities this year that you’ll want to check out while you’re there. And one that we plan to hit is the Support Your Local Brewery Pavilion – where you’ll be able to enjoy craft beers with several participating craft beer guilds as they showcase beers not available elsewhere in the festival hall.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 1, 2014Friends in High Places (Santa Rosa / Paso Robles, CA) – In 2008, Russian River got an awesome deal on used brewing equipment from their friends at Dogfish Head that will allow them to be able to afford to build a new production brewery and increase their output from 3,000 barrels at their pub to more than 14,000 barrels annually. The new brew house gear is expected to be delivered and installed in February 2015 and unfortunately, gets in the way of their ability to brew their enormously popular Double IPA, Pliny the Elder in Santa Rosa. So they turned to their friends down in Paso Robles and Firestone Walker graciously agreed to brew several batches of Pliny the Elder to keep the beer flowing during this downtime at Russian River!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 1, 2014What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who have shared their wares with us in the past and those of you who have shipped us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night, we celebrated the harvest season with a special-edition seasonal that was sent our way by the fine folks at the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. Shiner Oktoberfest is an award-winning 5.7% ABV Märzen-style ale that’s rich, dry, and perfect for this time of year.
