The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – November 5, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time…Tomorrow, a huge international celebration of a classic beer style is taking place and you need to be ready for it. We’ll have details on that as well as other things that are breaking right now in the world of craft beer. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately.

We don’t sleep so you can….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – November 5, 2014Lest We Forget (UK) – On the heels of last year’s study that found that moderate drinking helped to boost the number of nerve cells in the brain comes a new report in MailOnline. Researchers have found that consuming a daily beer might actually ward off dementia  and that those who enjoy a drink or two nightly are 37% less likely to develop the cognitive disease.

10 Barrel PDX Names its New Brewer (Portland, OR) – Bend, Oregon’s 10 Barrel Brewing will be opening a new brewing operation in Portland in January 2015  and they’ve just announced their new location’s head brewer. Whitney Burnside is a 27-year-old professional with a brewing pedigree that includes stints at Upright and Elysian Brewing and we’re psyched for her.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – November 5, 2014International Stout Day Tomorrow (Planet Earth) – In yet another sign that almost everything now has an official day of celebration, November 6th has been designated International Stout Day – so don’t even think about uncapping an IPA tomorrow. “We usually start our celebration bright and early with several pints of Stout and eggs,” remarked Tom Bobak, Editor at American Craft Beer. “This is an important day for us and we try to wrap things up early so that we can participate in the televised parade downtown.”

Another Capital Move (Middleton, WI) – The Capital Brewery has promoted Assistant Brewer Ashley Kinart to Brew Master and we’re happy for her. Kinart received an International Brewing Diploma from the Siebel Institute of Technology at the Doemens Academy in Munch, Germany  which makes her much brighter than anyone here at ACB.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – November 5, 2014What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night, we uncapped a special harvest ale from our friends at Flying Dog and we had a blast. Flying Dog Secret Stash Harvest Ale is a 5.5% ABV American-style Wheat Ale that celebrates the region’s agricultural roots and is brewed using locally sourced wheat, rye, and hops. It’s brewed to be paired with several and that’s what we did.
