The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – March 25, 2015

It’s been a tumultuous start to the year for the craft beer biz and it doesn’t appear that things are going to slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

SAVOR Returns to Power City (Washington, DC) – SAVOR 2015 returns to the Nation’s Capital on June 5th-6th   and we’re totally psyched about it. Tickets for this year’s “American Craft Beer & Food Experience” went on sale yesterday and if history is any indication, it’s probably sold-out already leaving those who did not heed our warnings gnashing their teeth in a craft beer purgatory. But you should check for tickets here (just to be sure). Bottom line – SAVOR is a one-of-a-kind harmonic celebration of serious beer and specially crafted cuisine. It’s without a doubt, one of the country’s best craft beer events and we hope you can make it there.

Yacht Rockin’ ( Milton, DE / Austin, TX) – The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Dogfish Head have teamed up for the 8th Annual Off-Centered Film Fest, an epic multi-day celebration of craft beer, delicious food and off-centered films for off-centered people! They’ll have a killer lineup of screenings and are inviting you all to enter special shorts competition featuring your 3-minute Yacht Rockin’ masterpieces and you can learn more about it here.

American Craft Beer Exports Near $100 in 2014 (Boulder. CO) – Our friends at the Brewer’s Association just hipped us to the fact that American craft beer exports are reaching record numbers. Overall craft beer export volume increased an astounding 35.7 percent in 2014. The fastest growing markets were Brazil, South Korea, Thailand and the United Kingdom. The strongest growth was found in Brazil, which was up 63.9 percent; Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan), up 38.1 percent; Western Europe, up 36.6 percent; Canada, up 32.3 percent; and Japan, up 31.7 percent.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – March 25, 2015A Banner Year at Terrapin (Athens, GA) – Spike Buckowski and the whole Terrapin Beer crew are good people – so we’re happy to hear they had yet another year of unprecedented growth. New beers, new equipment, new markets, and a renovation of the tasting room led to record production and a 41% increase in total sales over 2013. Hopsecutioner IPA led the pack with 38% of total sales, while relative year-round newcomer RecreationAle has swept into second at 15%.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night we hit up a new spring seasonal that we just received from Flying Dog Brewing. Inspired by two previous Brew House Rarities releases – a Sour Cherry Ale and a Black Lager with Cherries – Flying Dog’s Supertramp is a 4.7% ABV tart cherry ale that uses both and sour cherries in the brewing process. This is an incredibly unique springtime beer and now’s the time to chase it down
