The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 8, 2016

Yikes, It’s June already… and clearly nothing is slowing down anytime soon. But no worries, Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 8, 2016Maui Brewing Gets A Whole New Look (Kihei, HI) – Maui Brewing is introducing bold new look to their family of beers and Maui’s CEO, Garrett Marrero, who we spoke with last weekend at SAVOR, is clearly very stoked about it. Designed by Austin-based, The Butler Bros, Maui’s new look is a total brand update that includes a refreshed logo, re-envisioned packaging and an entirely new web presence. Marrero wanted us to reassure Maui’s legions of fans, “that while the brand has a new look, they are still brewing the same great indie craft beer!”

Boston Beer Losing Market Share To Smaller Breweries (Boston, MA) – We’re not sure if Boston Beer’s Jim Koch is still a billionaire or not, but we do know that the company’s stock has been hit hard of late. Motley Fool is reporting that “the company’s shares are down about 40% following steep decreases in total sales and profits, and that they are losing market share to the community that Samuel Adams paved the way for smaller craft breweries.

Words To Drink By (Los Angeles, CA) – “Fame doesn’t keep you warm at night, it’s not even a decent friend.”

Bob Lefsetz – the Lefsetz Letter

Time To Blow Your Brains Out – New Mortal Kombat X Beers (Poulsbo, WA) – Sound Brewery, Warner Brothers, and Global Beverage Traders have teamed up to create three  Mortal Kombat inspired beers, whether you care or not. Looking to cash in on this valuable gaming franchise, and gamers who will buy anything associated with it, each beer is officially branded by a big-name Mortal Kombat veteran. Sub-Zero lends its name to an Imperial IPA, Raiden to the Saison and Scorpion to the Imperial Stout.

The Stone Global Conquest Tour Continues (Escondido, CA) – Stone Brewing has announced that starting this week, the San Diego-based craft brewer will begin selling its beers to bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the entire state of Wisconsin.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who’ve shipped us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us get a better feel for what’s happening out there. And last night we hit up a new fruit-flavored offering that Starr Hill recently released. Starr Hill’s The Hook, is a 4.9% ABV Grapefruit Session IPA that’s a perfect refresher at this time of year.
