We can’t believe we’re almost done with June already…So much has happened this year and it doesn’t appear that things will be slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.
JOE PATERNO GETS LEGACY LAGER (Latrobe, PA) – As part of their projected Paterno Legacy Series the Duquesne Brewing Company has announced that they will be brewing a Lager honoring the late Penn State football coach. According to the AP the European-style Lager will be available in mid-August.The brewery says it’s working with Paterno’s family on the beer and a portion of proceeds will go to charities they support.
AN EXPLOSIVE WIT BEER (San Marcos, CA) – We received a call on Monday from Mark Watson the Marketing Director for Circle Market out in Southern California who tipped us to the fact that a number of bottles of Eagle Rock’sManifesto Wit Bier had exploded at their San Marcos location…This is the first that we’d about a problem with this particular beer, and we’ll keep you posted.
CRAFT BREWERS FLEE ENVIROMENTAL GUARDIANS (Craig, CO) – Colorado-based craft brewers are downplaying any association with WildEarth Guardians – an advocacy group whose lawsuit against the Colowyo mine could perennially cost that community hundreds of jobs – and has led to a boycott of breweries associated with that organization. We’d written last week that New Belgium’s recent efforts to explain their association with the group had fallen on deaf ears – and now the Washington Times is reporting that “Twisted Pine Brewing used to be listed as a supporter on the WildEarth Guardians website, but no more.”
TUBORG AT GLASTONBURY (UK) – In the states craft beer is one of the draws at major craft beer festivals like Bonnaroo, Living Lands and Coachella but it’s clearly less important at a music festival across the pond. Glastonbury 2015 (which is taking place this week) has once again chosen Danish major’s Tuborg to be this year’s “official beer”- an unimpressive choice at best.
WHAT WE’VE BEEN DRINKING LATELY (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night we ended our day with a re-envisioned classic that we’d recently received from Starr Hill. Starr Hill has changed up their Northern Lights IPA and although we’ve long been fans of the original, this new 6.2% ABV version has an enhanced hop menu brighter character. Very Nice…
