The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – July 9, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time….If you’re planning on taking a vacation coming up and you’ll be drinking beer when you do, we’ve got some travel destinations you’ll want to consider. Plus, we’ve got a roundup of the latest craft news and an all-important update on what we’re drinking this week.

We don’t sleep so you can….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – July 9, 2014Cheapest Beer Vacations Revealed (Planet Earth) – Who cares where you spend your vacation as long as the beer’s plentiful and affordable. With that in mind, David Adelman and his crew at FinancesOnline have collected all the data and determined the best places for you to visit, especially if you’re going to be consuming a lot of beer. Bottom line – Vietnam and Ukraine are the undisputed winners with beer at fifty nine cents per bottle. Other beer-friendly countries include: Cambodia, Czech Republic, China, Serbia, and Panama.

Time for You to Vote for the Distributor of the Year (Alexandria, VA) – Many of our readers, not surprisingly, work in the craft beer industry. And we wanted to remind all of you brewers and those of you who work on the distribution side of things that the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) and the Brewers Association (BA) are still seeking your nominations for the Eighth Annual Craft Beer Distributor of the Year Award. But time is running out and you need to act now. Nominations will be accepted up until 5:30 p.m. this Friday, July 11th – so make your voice heard.

Self-Serve Beer Stations Debut at Target Field (Minneapolis, MN) – Hey we’re all about this – now all they have to do is upgrade the beers that they’re offering. The Minnesota Twins unveiled a self-serve beer station last Sunday that according to a Fox Sports report “is the first of its kind in Major League Baseball. The station allows fans to purchase a card for amounts of $10, $20, or $50 to use at the machine.”

Yeast Affection (Richmond, VA) – With more and more new craft breweries coming on line almost daily, we’re going to see an increasing number of new businesses like RVA Yeast Labs popping up and that’s a good thing. Richmond.com is reporting that the company was launched in 2013 by two fellow homebrewers, Jason Ridlon and Malachy McKenna, with the intention of offering East Coast brewers an alternative to national yeast providers, most of them based on the West Coast.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – July 9, 2014What We’re Drinking This Week (Washington, DC) – Since we march to the beat of our own drum here at ACB, we appreciate those craft brewers who truly embrace the reckless spirit of American brewing and concoct masterful creations from some of the most bizarre ingredients. We encountered some of this creative genius this weekend when we sampled Bloody Roots, a taproom-only collaboration between Three Notch’d Brewing of Charlottesville, VA, and Adroit Theory Brewing of Purcellville, VA. Inspired by the brunch-time staple, this Bloody Mary-turned Imperial Brown Ale features honey, habanero peppers, crushed tomatoes, celery salt, and horseradish. Sweet with a spicy burn, this is the 8% ABV kick-in-the-ass we’d love to get our hands on every (weekend) morning!
