GABF Ticket Alert (Denver, CO) – The 2014 Great American Beer Festival,or as it’s affectionately referred to by many, “The GABF,” will be returning to the Mile High City on October 2-4. So don’t be coming back to us all weepy because you weren’t aware when tickets were going on sale and that you missed out again, because we’re not buying it. Tickets will be available for purchase to the general public online on July 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. MDT/12:00 p.m. EDT via Ticketmaster.com. Got it? Well good – now this is on you.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – July 16, 2014Heavy Seas to Get Heavier (Baltimore, MD) – Heavy Seas Beer’s new brewhouse installation has begun and the brewery is hoping to have the equipment installed and everything operating by early August 2014. This advancement will increase their production capacity by 300% and expand their barrel program from 200 to 500-600 barrels per day. (See “What We’re Drinking This Week” below)

More Craft Beer Crime (Healdsburg, CA) – The Bear Republic Brewing Company has (or maybe had is now the more appropriate word) a company race car and it appears to have been stolen according to the brewery. The Bear Republic Bomber 15 racecar, a 1978 Dodge Tioga (Sweet!) and its trailer reportedly disappeared on July 11 and they’re asking for the community’s help to find it. Please call in your anonymous tips to 707-894-2722 and help put an end to “craft beer crime.”

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – July 16, 2014NPR Calls Bullshit on Jim Koch (Washington, DC) – Responding to a recent Esquire article entitled How To Drink All Night Without Getting Drunk, in which Boston Beer’s Jim Koch revealed that his secret to maintaining sobriety was taking several teaspoons of active yeast before drinking, NPR decided to put his theory to the test and they’re shockingly calling bullshit on the beer-happy billionaire. For the whole tawdry story on what some are calling Sam Adams’ scandalous drunken mogul cover -up, go here and you’ll never look at Jim Koch in the same way!

What We’re Drinking This Week (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who have shared their wares with us in the past and those of you who have shipped us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Earlier this week, we hit a bottle of Plank III that the folks at Heavy Seas Beer kindly sent our way, and it was a whole lot of fun. The Plank Series is about pushing beers flavor profiles by aging beers on woods that are rarely, if ever, used. And Heavy Seas Plank III, an 8.5% ABV Belgian Tripel that was aged on Jamaican Allspice wood, is definitely worthy of tracking down.
