The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – January 21, 2015

2015 is off to a tumultuous start and Rumor Mill is on the case, making sure that you are always plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that.

Pliny the Younger Update (Santa Rosa, CA) – Mark your calendars everybody, because Pliny the Younger will make its 11th annual return to the Russian River brewery on February 6-19. It will be available on draft each day at their brewpub until they run out of that day’s allocation. Younger is neither bottled nor available in growlers so more people will have the opportunity to enjoy it right from the source, or at a handful of select draft accounts. Every year, the lines to get into the taproom grow longer and unfortunately the capacity of the room is only 135. With that in mind, the brewery is limiting patrons to three 10 oz. servings this year, and no more than a three-hour stay.

Only A Dog Would Consider This Beer (Belgium) – “If dogs are man’s best friend, then beer must run a close second;” and now, there’s a Belgian beer brewed exclusively for your canines, according to the UK Telegraph. But it’s a beer in name only as far as we’re concerned – and we’re calling bullshit on it! Snuffle Dog Beer is a 0% ABV non-sparkling concoction that only a dog might consider a beer and they could just as easily market it as Dog Broth.

New Belgium’s Wild Red RockRendezvous (Ft. Collins, FL) – In honor of their new, year-round Slow Ride Session IPA, New Belgium’s has teamed up with Stay Wild Magazine to offer their fans the chance to win one of four West Coast adventures. First up is the Red Rock Rendezvous outing. New Belgium will get the winners there and back, but first, they must prove they’re up for the adventure by tagging their most epic travel photos with #WestCoastSlowRide.

Red Rock Rendezvous winners will live like gods while they’re out there and enjoy conveniences such as:

  • An amazing full camp setup from TICLA;
  • A full camp kit from Stanley;
  • An ENO Double Nest Hammock, so you can kick back and relax after all the exploring; and
  • And a Yakima rack for your vehicle to transporttwo, brand-new Fat Tire cruisers.

This sounds awesome to us – and we’re pissed that we can’t participate – but you can. Just tag those photos with #WestCoastSlowRide and keep your fingers crossed. New Belgium’s panel of judges will choose the winners on Feb. 28.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – January 21, 2015What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night, we tapped a special collaboration ale from SweetWater Brewing and The Giving Kitchen – an Atlanta-based nonprofit dedicated to assisting restaurant industry workers with hardship needs. SweetWater’s Second Helping is a 7.4% ABV IPA brewed with Juniper berries that’s delicious and brewed for a good cause. This very limited release is currently available in 22 oz. bottles and on draft throughout Metro Atlanta – so search it out and do some good drinking.
