The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – December 3, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and it’s Rumor Mill Time…If you’re thinking about relocating and craft beer is a factor – we’ve a suggestion for you. We’ll have more on that, as well as other things breaking right now in the world of craft beer. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately.

Just a Convenience or Yet Another Sign of Desperation? (Everywhere, USA) – A number of our readers forwarded us this tweet that Miller Lite sent out to their followers last week, advertising free game-day delivery of their beer. Which leads us to ask: Why are you following Miller Lite to begin with? And, are you following us @AmericaCrftBeer?

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – December 3, 2014The Most Breweries per Person (Salem, OR) – If the number of breweries surrounding you is an overriding factor in your next relocation plan – we suggest the “Beaver State.” Yes it’s beervana, according to the Washington Post, and not only does it have the most breweries(180), but also the “state’s craft breweries generate almost $1.3 billion in economic activity — $449 for every Oregonian age 21 and older — which is more per capita than every other state.”

Bibles, Beer, and Pie (Lansing, MI) – We like beer and we like pie – and having them on hand would probably ensure that we’d go to church more often, that’s for sure. The Detroit News is reporting that Pastor Kevin Brown at Lansing Michigan’s Crossroads Church is incentivizing his growing flocks with offers of cold beer and warm pies. They’re also entertaining the church’s visitors with Death Cab for Cutie songs – but that’s a different discussion entirely.

Buffalonian Craft Beer (Buffalo, NY) – Craft beer is exploding in this Western New York city according to The Buffalo News, and there are now more artisan breweries in the region “than at any time since shortly after Prohibition.” Thanks to new legislation that “permits producers, many of whom now largely distribute their products to local bars and restaurants, to sell [beer] on their own premises,” and the growing popularity of the farm-to-table movement, Buffalo is fast becoming a tourist destination for American craft beer.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – December 3, 2014What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. On Black Friday, we opened one of the Bourbon County barrel-aged stouts that Goose Island kindly sent our way and shared with friends around a backyard fire. This year’s Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Rye Stout is one for the books – and you should do whatever you have to do to get your hands on a bottle!
