Tennessee Legislators Actually Do The Right Thing! (Nashville, TN) – In what many consider a shocking departure from form, the Tennessee Senate voted 30-1 to pass the Tennessee Beer Tax Reform Act of 2013 on Monday. This vote follows last week’s passage of a related bill in The House of Representatives. Final passage would eliminate the wholesale beer tax and instead tax beer by volume, which would mean that Tennessee would no longer have the highest beer tax in the country — currently 12% higher than even Alaska.

Golden Road Goes Golden Gate (Los Angeles, CA) – While Golden Road Brewing has made a name for itself as the first canned craft beer in Los Angeles, President Meg Gill and Brewmaster Jesse Houck are reaching out to their San Francisco roots with a few select placements in the City by the Bay. With rotating taps at six locations and two accounts for their packaged beer, Golden Road is taking the first baby steps into the Bay Area. Each of the initial placements has been hand-selected and hand-sold by Gill, and Golden Road is working closely with the distribution team at Matagrano to keep their Bay Area presence close-knit and personal. One of the featured placements will be at the beloved City Beer in SoMa, where Gill worked to introduce Oskar Blues cans into their renowned stock of craft beers.

Empire Building (New York City, NY) – The Empire Craft Alliance (ECA), a collective group of New York State beer wholesalers, has announced that The Fort Collins Brewery will be entering New York State with its network. Established in 2003, the Fort Collins Brewery will be bringing its Rocky Mountain IPA, Red Banshee, Chocolate Stout, and other great beers to New York. The ECA was created to provide efficient, seamless access to the entire New York State market for craft brewers through a unified network of local, independently-owned family businesses, and this popular Colorado-based brewery is a great “get” for them.
