This Week’s Guide to Industry News, Gossip & Innuendo
It's Wednesday, and there's a lot of big news breaking!
Green Flash Brewing has announced that they are planning to build a new brewery on the East Coast! Reports started surfacing yesterday afternoon, and we'll be giving you everything that we know so far. Plus, we've got other breaking stories that we need to tell you about and some hot new releases that you might want to chase down.
So, on to "Everything We Think Matters" . . .
Green Flash to Build East Coast Brewery
(San Diego, CA) This is big, big news, and ACB will be all over it. Craft Business Daily is reporting that Green Flash Brewing plans to build a new brewery on the East Coast. Green Flash joins Sierra Nevada, New Belgium and Oskar Blues, all of whom announced eastern expansion plans earlier this year. According to CBD, no final determination on location has been made as yet, but this situation's fluid and could change at any time.
15,000 Beer Servers Now Smarter than Us about Beer
(Chicago, IL) The Cicerone Program has now certified over 15,000 beer servers. California leads in certifications (1,947), followed by Illinois (1,333), New York (1,298), Florida (1,094), and Michigan (752).
New Belgium Doing More Good Things
(Fort Collins, CO) New Belgium continues to be one of the most forward-thinking brewers in the country. According to New Belgium's blog, the brewery is now diverting 99.9% of their waste away from landfills. Plus, the program is actually generating revenue!
The Mother of all SuperPacks is Coming!
(Lakewood, NY) Southern Tier Brewing has announced that they will be releasing a first ever SuperPack containing some of their most popular big-beers. Now, for the first time, their smash hit, Unearthly, will be available in a 12oz bottle, along with Iniquity, their Imperial Black Ale, and their top-selling Double India Pale Ale, 2XIPA. With an overall average of nearly 9.0% ABV, this is definitely not a box of session ales. This 12 bottle variety pack will be a big-beer bonanza, only in smaller bottles.
And So It Begins...
(Asheville, NC) Work is beginning at Sierra Nevada's North Carolina site according to Blue Ridge Now. "The first zoning permit has been issued, and work is under way at the well-guarded Sierra Nevada site, where crews are grading and clearing to prepare for the construction of the main building that will house the brewing operation..."
Say It's Not So!
(Munster, IN) In a recent blog posting, Three Floyds announced that they are reducing their per-person case sales limits from six to two in order to ensure that more people get the opportunity to buy and access their beer. (We think this policy seems entirely reasonable, as long as we can make purchases several times a day.)
