The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – September 8, 2014

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates -things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – September 8, 2014Snallygaster Returns to the Nation’s Capital (Washington, DC) – One of our favorite craft beer events returns to where it all started next weekend. And if you’ve never attended one – you need to – and here’s why. Unlike so many craft beer festivals that offer a roster of familiar standards along with the occasional rarity, Snallygaster does just the opposite. All the beer at next weekend’s event (9/13) has been curated by craft beer wunderkind Greg Engert, the Beer Director and Managing Partner for the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. For this year’s event, Greg’s assembled some 250+ beers from all around the world – and they’re the kinds of offerings that you only see at the most acclaimed craft beer outings like the Firestone Walker Invitational. We’re also psyched that one of our favorite dance punk bands, !!!will be headlining Snallygaster 2014 and there’s also going to be a special DJ set performance by the Brothers Brau – DC Brau’s Brandon Skall & Jeff Hancock.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – September 8, 2014Nation’s First Strip Club Brewpub (Dayton, OH) – Pinups and Pints is a gentleman’s club based in the Dayton area and it also might be the beginning of yet another craft beer diversion that we should have seen coming. According to the Dayton City Paper, this is the first strip club brewpub in the nation – and no matter what you think of this idea – we predict that it won’t be the last.

Big Beer Crime (Chicago, IL) – MillerCoors has filed a lawsuit against two former marketing executives and several other people, “accusing them of embezzling more than $10 million from the brewing company through phony invoices for undelivered services over at least 13 years,” according to Journal Sentinel. American Craft Beer LLC was notably not cited as having a part in this tawdry shake-down and we’re relived about that.

Craft Beer Crime (Minneapolis, MN) – It appears that criminal activities aren’t solely the domain of Big Beer companies like MillerCoors. TwinCities.com is reporting that the Minnesota State Fair Craft Brewers Guild exhibit was robbed on Friday. The thieves reportedly left two exhibit workers tied up and disappeared with more than $10,000. Yikes!

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – September 8, 2014ACB Beer Week Alert (Anywhere, USA) – In our ongoing effort to help you plan where you need to be in September, we are issuing an impending beer week alert.Charleston Beer Week launched yesterday and runs through September 13. And one of our favorites, the Bellingham Beer Week kicks off September 12 and runs through the 21.
