The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – May 4, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

BrewDog To Columbus? (Columbus, OH) – Scottish brewer BrewDog has announced that they’re planning to build a production brewery in Columbus. Welcome news for a city still stinging from not landing Stone, who ended up choosing Richmond, Virginia for their new destination brewery.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – May 4, 2015Bud Lights Up A Firestorm (St Louis, MO) – Anheuser-Busch is weathering a social media firestorm set off by controversial phase they’ve added to their Bud Light labels as part of their “Up For Whatever” marketing campaign. The newly added text which reads “”The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night” and its possible sexual subtext (whether intended or not) is undeniable. Responding to the uproar, Anheuser-Busch has stopped production of labels with that unfortunate message on it and released a statement last week apologizing for having “missed the mark.” Yah think?

Craft Beer Crime? (Boston, MA) -State regulators on Wednesday accused Craft Beer Guild LLC, of unfair trade practices that limit consumer choices and harm small brewers.” According to the Boston Globe, the company “violated a state rule against offering inducements to retailers to stock its products over those of competitors and a state law that prohibits distributors from charging different prices for the same products.”

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – May 4, 2015Craft Beer Sneakers (Stockholm, Sweden) – In yet another sign that craft beer is becoming increasingly fashionable around the world, Sneakersnstuff and Adidas are collaborating with the Stockholm Brewing Company and releasing three beer inspired sneakers and three limited edition craft beers to go along with them. According to Fox News, the sneaker & beer Originals Brewery Pack was inspired by a huge 19th century brewery that used to be right across the street from the building that’s now home to the trendy Scandinavian shoe shop.

Beer Week Alert! (Miami, FL) – As part of our ongoing effort to help you plan were you need to be drinking each and every week, Quick Hits runs regular “Beer Week Alerts” and there are several that just started. Madison Craft Beer Week kicked off last Friday and runs through the 10th. Columbus Craft Beer Week also started last Friday and Minnesota Craft Beer Week launches today.
