We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

The 10th Anniversary Brewer’s Ball Returns To The Nation’s Capital (Washington, DC)  Two wonderful craft beer & cuisine events take place every year at the National Building Museum in the Washington, DC. SAVOR happens every June  and the other event takes place this Saturday, March 7th, when the 10th Anniversary Brewer’s Ball returns to the Capital City. Presented by the matchboxfoodgroup and benefitting the Metropolitan Washington DC Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, this gala event will feature brilliant craft beers from more than 30 of the region’s best breweries and delectable cuisine from over 20 popular and exciting regional restaurants. The Brewer’s Ball is craft beer, cuisine, music, and fun in a spectacular setting. , The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – March 2, 2015Create A Brew For The Bruery (Placentia, CA) – California-based The Bruery is holding a homebrew competition and the winning beer will be recreated in their brewhouse and distributed commercially! The beer will also be entered into the 2015 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro/Am category and the winner will be invited to the brewery to help them replicate the award-winning homebrew. New States Hop On The Hop Bandwagon (Everywhere, USA) – Farmers in fourteen new states (including Colorado, Michigan, and New York) stepped up to meet the craft beer consumer’s unquenchable thirst for hop-driven IPAs and began planting hops for the first time in 2014, according to Fortune.  And amazingly, the majority of these new crops consist of “aroma hops” (more commonly used in the dry-hopping process) rather than the long dominant alpha hops known primarily for bittering.

Beer Week Alert! (Miami, FL) – As part of our ongoing effort to help you plan where you need to be drinking each and every week, Quick Hits runs regular “Beer Week Alerts” and one of our favorites, Sacramento Beer Week kicked things off last Thursday and runs through March 8th. And Tampa Bay Beer Week is just around the corner! This warm-weather funfest runs March 7th through the 15th.
