The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – June 22, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates  things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

Is Beer Giving You Man Boobs? (Everywhere, USA) – If there was ever a reason to rethink that beer that you’re drinking – this might be it! Hops contain “high levels of phytoestrogen–a plant estrogen.” And now Fox News is reporting that “according to , The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – June 22, 2015research conducted by acclaimed herbalist and author Stephen Harrod Buhner, hops can also contribute to breast development in men and to a condition called “brewer’s droop”–or impotence brought on by heavy drinking.” Yikes – we’re not loving that!

Sweet Baby Jesus! (Baltimore, MD) – The name of DuClaw Brewing’s chocolate-peanut butter porter “Sweet Bay Jesus” has created an uproar for the brewery and Midwest grocery chain that was selling it. Mashable is reporting that “Heinen’s Grocery Stores, with 22 locations around Ohio and Illinois, pulled the offending brew from all of their locations, due to various customers complaining about the name and writing angry letters.” No word on what locals think of other DuClaw offerings like Guilty Little Soul and Dirty Little Freak.

Carlsberg Launches Beer Infused Grooming Line (Denmark) – Beauty experts have known for a long time that beer is rich in vitamins and proteins and now Denmark-, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – June 22, 2015based Carlsberg, which already controls 8 percent of the of the global beer market, is looking to capitalize on it. Last week, they launched Carlsberg Beer Beauty, which offers shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion all made with beer – but unfortunately nothing to help us with the impending man-boob crisis.

ACB On The Town (Silver Spring, MD) – What with publishing daily, we unfortunately don’t get out to visit our craft beer friends as much as we’d like. But last Friday, we made a long overdue visit to Denizens Brewing, one of DC’s newest craft breweries, who’d invited us in for a tour of their awesome multi-level facility, and for the launch of Blanc Yeah!, a delicious new Saison that’d they’d just debuted that afternoon. We’d like to thank Taylor Barnes, Denizen’s Director of Marketing (and also one of its founders) for a wonderful afternoon of good people and serious beer. Less than a year in operation, Denizens is doing some truly exciting things and we’re jazzed to have them in our backyard.
