The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – July 7, 2014

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates -things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – July 7, 2014New Glarus Giveth and New Glarus Taketh Away (New Glarus, WI) – If you’re in the hunt for New Glarus Brewing’s popular summer seasonal – you’re gonna have to wait till next year because the brewery has pulled its remaining Berliner Weisse out of the market “due to public perception that it was over-carbonated,” according to 77-square.

Ninkasi Launches a Space Program (Eugene, OR) – We always knew that our friends at Ninkasi Brewing were on a mission – we just didn’t realize that mission might encompass taking their brand into the stratosphere! Working with the Space eXploration Team (CSXT), the first amateur rocketeer group to successfully launch a rocket to space in 2004, they’ll be launching a payload of 16 strains of Ninkasi’s brewer’s yeast into space this summer. If successful (and for the sake of the planet and craft beer’s future, let’s hope they are), the NSP team will return to the brewery with the healthy yeast, and a very special “NSP” for craft beer and space aficionados alike.

Founders Doubles Down Yet Again! (Grand Rapids, MI) – If you thought that the Founders Brewing Company had grown quite a bit over the last couple years – wait until next spring. MLive.com is reporting that by “May 2015, the Grand Rapids brewery plans to complete a $25 million expansion project that will double its beer-making capacity to 600,000 barrels.”

ACB Beer Week Alert (Anywhere, USA) – In our ongoing effort to help you plan where you need to be in July, we’ve instituted regular beer week alerts that you need to pay attention to. Ohio’s 9th Annual Beer Week begins this Friday, July 11 and run through July 19. And those party animals over by San Jose will be hosting their own week of serious craft beer at the end of the month when the Silicon Valley Beer Week kicks offs on July 25.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – July 7, 2014When You Start Brewing as Much Great Beer as They Do…Then You Can Have Your Own Beer Month Too! (Oregon) – While some cities and states are just getting their hands around hosting their own beer weeks – Oregon’s ridiculously rich craft beer scene can barely showcase everything the state is doing in a month! With that in mind, they’ve just kicked off Oregon Craft Beer Month – thirty-one days of special events, new releases, tastings, and pairings. This year’s all-July-long celebration will feature more than 450 events in total, culminating with the grand daddy of them all: The Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland.
