The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – July 13, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

Goose Island And “Chance the Rapper” Collaborate At Pitchfork (Chicago, IL) – The Pitchfork Festival returns to the Windy City next weekend and one of its headliners, Chance the Rapper, collaborated with Goose Island on a limited edition festival beer that will debut there. The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Goose Island / Chance the Rapper/ No Collar is a 5.3% Helles Lager and that it will available on draft around town after the festival too.

Knee Deep’s Founder Bolts (Auburn, CA) – This happens sometimes – a brewery flourishes – but one its founders (and in this case its head brewer) – feels stifled and looks for new opportunities. That’s why Jeremy Warren is leaving the highly successful Knee Deep Brewing (now in 16 states). But according to the Sacramento Bee, he’s planning to launch a new brewery where he can explore his growing passion for barrel – aged beers and sours.

No Longer A Wasteland (Los Angeles, CA) – Although somewhat late to the party, LA has finally arrived when it comes to craft beer. And on Saturday Forbes did a nice piece on the city’s growing craft beer scene that you might want to check out.

Planet Duff (Chile) – After years of litigation and many false starts Duff Beer, Homer Simpson’s beloved drink of choice, might actually become a reality. And in keeping with the absurdist nature of The Simpsons, 21st Century Fox which owns the rights to Duff, that they will likely launch the beer in Chile! According to TIME “Fox could not confirm a U.S. release, but Fox executives haven’t ruled out the possibility of a domestic homecoming either.”

Craft Beer Grocery Coupons (Texas) – Would try a new beer if you had discount coupons that grocery stores would honor? We would for sure – and Texas is considering legalizing that practice according to KHOU.
