The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 27, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

ACB On The Town (National Harbor, MD) – Last Wednesday we were invited out to a launch party for a new boutique hotel brand that Marriott is rolling out. The AC Hotel Washington, DC at National Harboris newest addition to a growing family of “destination hotel” that’s geared to millennials and caters to that vibe. Craft beer and craft cocktails ruled the night as they are very much a part of what this cutting-edge hotel does. The boys from DC Brau were on hand to celebrate the launch. And they brought along their devastatingly delicious Double IPA Wings of Armageddon, so as you can imagine, things got wild. The cuisine found at AC Hotel stems from its Spanish roots and the foods that we sampled that night were both sophisticated and casual at the same time. We’d like to thank the whole AC Hotel team for having us out. We had a total blast – and promise to behave when we’re down your way again.

BrewDog Hotel (Ellon, Scotland) – Taking the AC Hotel’s craft-centric approach to hospitality one step further, BrewDog is planning to build a hotel in their hometown in Scotland, that will have tap lines in every room – so there’s that.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 27, 2015ACB Europe Bound – (Østerbro, Copenhagen) – We are beyond stoked to be heading to this year’s Copenhagen Beer Celebration (the other CBC), one of the most acclaimed and celebrated European beer events that takes place in Copenhagen. The annual event, hosted by world-renowned gypsy brewer Mikkeller, brings together around 50 breweries from all over the world to showcase their best in the old athletics arena, Sparta Hallen. If you weren’t able to snag a ticket for this year’s CBC but are planning on being in Copenhagen from April 27-May 3, be sure to join Mikkeller for their Beer Week. We’ve been told a lot of crazy shit will be poured during the week’s full event schedule, which includes a Mikkeller Beer Run, Mikkeller Bar Viktoriagade 5th year anniversary, and much more. We’ll keep you plugged into all the latest happenings once we’re safely on the ground via our social media channels – so stay tuned! For an updated tap list of all the deliciousness to expect, check out the event’s Facebook page.

Brew U (Pomona, CA) – The California State Polytechnic University -Pomona brought their new on-campus brewery last December joining a “growing number of colleges instructing students how to produce high-quality craft beers” according to AP.

ACB On The Town II (Seattle, WA) – Last Friday night ACB’s Sales & Marketing Director, Matt Lyman, scored tickets to the Ninkasi Space Program’sSpace Oddity Ball at the EMP Sky Church in Seattle. With Ninkasi’s new Ground Control (an Imperial Stout brewed with yeast that they shot into space) on tap, and performances by the Vokab Kompany, Haunted Summer and Gayle Skidmore, it was a pretty darn good time. You may have seen Matt; he was the one dressed as the giant space banana. (Editor’s note: I was a freaking star, not a banana.) Big thanks to Ninkasi for hosting us and allowing us to try a beer that was…wait for it…out of this world. (Editor’s note again: we are sorry for that, but it had to happen)
