The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 25, 2016

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourself.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 25, 2016Anheuser-Busch Acquires Another Big Name Craft Brewery (Italy) – Another week, another craft brewery acquisition but unlike the recent Devils Backbone takeover, this one’s abroad., one of Italy’s most acclaimed craft brewers, Birra del Borgo announced last Friday, that they’d agreed to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of AB InBev. Terms of the agreement are not being disclosed but were pretty sure that there was “big-time” cash being thrown around. As we’ve written before, If You Can’t Beat Them Buy Them is now AB InBev’s global directive – they’re succeeding and are still far from done…So fasten your seatbelts everybody and get ready for more beloved craft beer properties to SELL OUT.

AleSmith Is Calling All Artists (San Diego, CA) AleSmith Brewing is encouraging its fans to submit artwork that could land on the 22-ounce bottle of this year’s batch of Evil Dead Red Ale. The contest runs through May 9th and you read up more on the submission rules HERE

More Craft Beer Ideas We’re Not So Sure About (Sacramento, CA) – A California-based climbing facility has announced plans , The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – April 25, 2016to start brewing and serving craft beer in addition to their climbing walls at their Sacramento location.  Pipeworks, which operates 11 climbing training operations throughout California, reportedly plans to add an actual brewery to the back their main 11,000-square-foot gym, pending the city’s approval.

Brooklyn Brewery Takes the Mash Tour To Europe (London, UK) Brooklyn Brewery’s 2016 Mash Tour, magnificent  celebration of beer, music, art and cuisine is beginning its nine city run in London (May 11th-15th). Followed up with a stop in Stockholm (May 26th-29th).  The Mash Tour is not a hit and run kind of thing – Brooklyn Brewery comes into a town and lives there for a week beer-fueled adventure and entertainment – and we can’t recommend it enough!
